“When you create a difference in someone’s life, you not only impact their life, you impact everyone influenced by them throughout their entire lifetime. No act is ever too small. One by one, that is how to make an ocean rise.’’ - Danielle Doby. I believe that your mental health is the vehicle by which you navigate life successfully; and, as a Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist, with a Master of Social Work, I have over 10 years of experience working with individuals and families, experiencing mental health issues as a result of current crises or cycles of unresolved generational trauma.

We use an integrative approach with a grounding in attachment theory, Internal
Family Systems
, Emotionally-Focussed Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.
Emotional pain and discomfort allow access to the narrative that is being told by your body, mind, and soul. While unique to your own experience, it is what connects us as fellow humans. We are here to explore alongside you the roots of the pain and discomfort as you navigate a journey that may feel isolating at times, confusing at times, or even unbearable at times. In our journey together, we offer new ways of looking at your situation while acknowledging your lived experience and where you are in your walk. Together, we will create strategies that will draw upon your strengths in order to work towards your fullest potential.

Would you like to claim your personal power and learn how to be the best version of yourself on your own and in relationships? Whether you are suffering with anxiety or depression or a mixture of both, I can help. Perhaps you have a history of emotional, psychological, physical or sexual abuse, or you have been bullied or been in an invalidating environment, I can help.

IFS

This isn’t who you are. Something in you already knows that or you wouldn’t be here. Who you are is buried underneath the patterns, habits, and ways of being in the world that you’ve had to adopt in order to carry on. We all adopt strategies that keep us safe and protected, help us move forward. They're often needed - and they come at a cost. Along the way we fallen out of touch with ourselves - the version of us who lives freely and playfully. What if there was a different way? One where we can live life while staying connected with who we are. Transformations are possible - and it starts with our relationship with ourselves.

My approach is rooted in a humanistic and experiential framework where I practice through an Internal
Family Systems

Emotional, physical, and relational pain are human experiences that every one of us inevitably encounter in life. Creating change and learning how to grow into the individuals we want to become can be a challenging and scary process, especially when we feel like we are doing it alone. In our work together, I will support you through difficult moments while building meaningful and sustainable changes in your life. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and I practice from an LGBTQ+ supportive, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive framework.

Are you really living? Or simply getting by? If life has become a treadmill of unhappy thoughts and unfulfilling behaviours, you're not alone. So many of us move from one unconscious pattern to the next, trapped in cycles that can leave us feeling hopeless and helpless. These cycles can keep us stuck in mindsets that cause distress, habits that make us miserable and relationships that bring us down. We go through the motions, our days shaped by these old cycles and patterns, and how we spend our days becomes how we spend our lives. But it doesn't have to be that way.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Counsellors
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
