Living in a rural community, I have learned to be adaptive in my approach to psychotherapy. I work with couples and individuals, varying in age from 12 onward, across many domains. My special interests lean toward working with clients who are neurodiverse, and those who struggle in their relationship with food and body, anxiety and self-esteem. I don't think of 'wellness' as prescriptive- it must be a feeling of security and peace that we develop and hold within ourselves. That's why my philosophy of care includes setting a pace that fits your needs and helping you develop your own feelings of empowerment and self-growth.

Or you’re a parent determined to do things differently with your kids, yet the same patterns keep showing up. When life feels overwhelming and quick fixes haven’t helped, it can be exhausting and discouraging.

You’ve been holding everything together for everyone—but inside, you’re running on empty. Maybe you’re snapping more than you want to, feeling distant from your partner, or worried about your teen pulling away. You just want things to feel calm again. To breathe. To connect. To stop pretending you’re fine. You’re not asking for too much—you’re asking for things to finally feel okay again. At The Relationship Centre, we help you untangle what’s happening beneath the surface, so life and relationships start to feel steady, safe, and connected again.

Are you tired of feeling like your anger is damaging relationships or taking over important moments in your life? Do you hold things in until it builds up—and then it comes out more intensely than you intended? I specialize in working with adults experiencing anger, trauma, anxiety, and difficulties with emotional regulation. Many of the people I work with feel stuck in patterns that are hard to change, especially when emotions feel overwhelming or reactive in ways they don’t want. These responses are often connected to past experiences that continue to show up in the present.

Sometimes life gets overwhelming, and it becomes difficult to see the forest for the trees. Whether it’s work, relationships or historical issues that are causing you stress, psychotherapy can help make things clearer and help you adjust your perspectives to make sense out of your experiences. Other times there is no "sense" to make, but through therapy we can learn coping strategies to get through difficult times. Our approach to therapy is client-centered, with the focus on guiding clients to identify and reach their goals.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
