ADHD Therapists in Madoc, ON
Living in a rural community, I have learned to be adaptive in my approach to psychotherapy. I work with couples and individuals, varying in age from 12 onward, across many domains. My special interests lean toward working with clients who are neurodiverse, and those who struggle in their relationship with food and body, anxiety and self-esteem. I don't think of 'wellness' as prescriptive- it must be a feeling of security and peace that we develop and hold within ourselves. That's why my philosophy of care includes setting a pace that fits your needs and helping you develop your own feelings of empowerment and self-growth.

The neurocomplexity of ADHD and autism can make everyday interactions, let alone therapy, draining and frustrating.
My approach is relational and eclectic, blending narrative, solution-oriented, and somatic modalities. Together, we’ll gently challenge cognitive biases, identify areas of internal dissonance, and increase your tolerance for ambiguity.

Many of the people I work with come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from themselves, often navigating anxiety, low mood, trauma, grief, ADHD, self-esteem concerns, or significant life transitions.
In my work, I offer a calm and attentive space where people can feel safe enough to explore what they’re experiencing without pressure to perform, explain everything perfectly, or rush the process. My approach is grounded in empathy, curiosity, and presence, with an emphasis on meeting what’s showing up in the present moment.

“It is never too late to be what you might have been” – George Eliot. As young children, we know what we need, want and enjoy. We are less likely to hold back from big dreams, showing emotions or stating needs. As we move through life, difficult experiences and outside expectations often move our focus from intuitively doing what is best for us, leaving many feeling detached from our true selves. Using an eclectic, feminist approach with a sprinkle of humor, Samantha will assist you in assessing and addressing the life events that have moved you away from the life you want.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
