I also am very interested in spirituality and how this affects parenting choices, as well as learning new ways to parent that are true to you and what your beliefs are.
I support youth and adults with anxiety, body image and relational concerns. I am skilled at supporting clients in the perinatal stage. I have a strong interest in issues of faith deconstruction and reconstruction, no matter what beliefs, religion or faith traditions you are a part of.

I see you as a whole person and I recognize all interlocking identities; faith/ spirituality , race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, gender, and ability all make you who you are.
My faith-based Christian practice is focused on providing anti-oppressive, culturally sensitive support to individuals of African, Caribbean, African Canadian/American heritage, and allies. My focus is help rebuild esteem, intimacy, trust, and friendship. Together, we can work on healing and provide you with the tools to grow individually, as a family, and/or couple to (re)establish a stronger sense of self; ensuring that when working with couples and families, we collaboratively cultivate, and maintain mutual respect while feeling heard, seen, valued, understood, and supported by your partner/family members.

Virtual (on-line) counselling will be my current mode of therapy. Peace and Balance versus Anxiety and Stress. My passion is helping people empower themselves to cope better in their lives.. in relationships, in self-confidence, in spirituality . Sometimes we need to talk about very personal things with an objective, compassionate, nonjudgmental listener. I have worked for over 25 years helping people find themselves and find their 'peace of mind.'

Jan 30, 2023 - started wait list. I understand that you might be nervous to reach out to a therapist, especially if you’ve had trouble with other services in the past. I have experience supporting LGBQ, Trans, and Nonbinary adults and youth and their family members, members of the LGBTQ community who have struggled with navigating identity and spirituality , and anyone who struggles with constant negative self-talk. If you have some goals in mind to work toward, feel free to reach out. I can offer a consultation and give you some time to decide whether you feel we would be a good fit to work together.

The world is changing, and we can all feel and see it. The value of taking care of our mental health is becoming increasingly important, as we become more aware of our past and as we step into our future together. You may be feeling anxious, depressed, confused, lost, or you may simply not know how to feel or what to feel. You may have difficulty communicating. You may be feeling good but just want to explore yourself or are curious to grow in unique and different ways. Maybe you are having relationship issues, or maybe you want to reconnect to spirituality . These are all wonderful reasons to talk to a counsellor.

You may be experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, addiction, or other symptoms. You may wish to become more mindful, deal with past trauma, develop greater insight, make meaning, change old patterns or unwanted behaviours, develop new habits, pursue new goals, enlarge your sense of what is possible in life, and find greater peace and self-acceptance. If you are finding that psychological distress is interfering with your ability to enjoy life, maintain mutually satisfying relationships, and/or fulfilling work, psychotherapy can be very helpful.

Are you feeling weighed down by the pain of loss or trauma? Perhaps you’re experiencing the confusion that arises when life doesn’t go as planned. Or the self-doubt that can come from choices you’ve made in the past. Along with sadness, you might feel anger or a sense of shame. As a survivor of religious trauma, I have lived experience in the process of moving from this dark and lonely place to healing and hope. Whether you find yourself questioning the beliefs you grew up with or those of a group you chose to align with, we can gently bring what makes you uncomfortable into the light of day and move towards a brighter future.

Far beneath the surface of your skin, upon the shores of your consciousness, there is a labyrinthine collection of parts waiting to be heard, felt and seen. The entryways that lead to these parts are often hidden, sometimes on forest floors, sometimes behind brick walls or mountains and sometimes in plain sight. But those who seek will find. Their doors have been waiting for them. You have heard the call, searched and found the door. I welcome you to your inner world where you will see for yourself your endless capacity for courage, calmness, compassion, confidence, clarity, connectedness and creativity.

Sometimes life hurts and we are uncertain how to move forward. Trauma, grief, life transitions, difficult relationships, and past experiences often leave us searching for healing and hope. We don’t want to do this work alone, and yet we don’t always know where to turn. In the therapeutic relationship you will be heard and seen. In my practice I use a holistic, person-centred approach where together we will build a respectful relationship that allows you to gain new skills, acquire knowledge that helps bring about change, and work toward your personal goals.

If you’re struggling with a challenge that feels confusing, heavy, or scary, or if you’re at a crossroads in life and wondering what’s next, I can help. I can tune in to the core issue, support you through the confusion, and help you develop a clear and manageable plan to move forward. The Emotion Code (TEC) can also help you feel lighter by releasing trapped emotions. TEC is the simplest, quickest, and most efficient healing method in energy psychology today. Trapped emotions can even be passed down (inherited), or trapped in utero (prenatal). The Emotion Code clears our emotional baggage without having to relive past experiences.

We all want to be heard and to have a place of validation as we navigate life issues. Knowing someone is there to listen and support as we accept difficult circumstances or make decisions for change can help us move through these challenging times. Areas of focus are anxiety, depression, coping strategies, workplace issues, caregiver burnout, palliative/end of life, grief and loss, chronic pain and illness.

There are times in a person's life when they reach an interior impasse. For any number of reasons, the realization gradually dawns on them that their inner freedom has been compromised and there is no clear understanding why. Often, this takes place in the context of relationship, whether with their spouse, family, friends or colleagues. While a family physician, social worker or another health professional can and do help, sometimes what is also needed is the help of a psychotherapist trained and certified in the art and science of talk therapy, the bedrock of all psychotherapy models. It can be the key to change and inner freedom.

Spirituality Counsellors

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviours. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualisation, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
