If you are finding that psychological distress is interfering with your ability to enjoy life, maintain mutually satisfying relationships, and/or fulfilling work, psychotherapy can be very helpful.

Welcome to my page! My name is Aisha (eye-sha), and I am a Somatic Art Psychotherapist. I value authenticity and strive to offer thoughtful, intuitive and radically compassionate care, rooted in anti-oppressive community practice, and embodied liberation. I am not a robot, I am a heart-centred, imperfect human walking this earth just like you. I will do my best to bring my full self to our sessions, which will show up as laughing, silliness, getting things wrong sometimes, embracing messiness and potentially shedding a few tears together.

Are you feeling weighed down by the pain of loss or trauma? Perhaps you’re experiencing the confusion that arises when life doesn’t go as planned. Or the self-doubt that can come from choices you’ve made in the past. Along with sadness, you might feel anger or a sense of shame. As a survivor of religious trauma, I have lived experience in the process of moving from this dark and lonely place to healing and hope. Whether you find yourself questioning the beliefs you grew up with or those of a group you chose to align with, we can gently bring what makes you uncomfortable into the light of day and move towards a brighter future.

At the Inner Grapple, therapy is about truthfully and courageously confronting what is happening within us—and how that inner world shapes what we experience around us. This process often involves wrestling with difficult thoughts, emotions, and patterns, but it can lead to meaningful growth, increased confidence, and a clearer sense of purpose. At the core of my work is the belief that people are, in the final analysis, oriented towards greater fulfillment. Therapy becomes a space to clarify what deeply matters, uncover meaning, and align one’s life more closely with one's sense of purpose.

Have you noticed that you've lost your voice in your relationships? Maybe you keep the peace at the expense of your own needs, only to find your feelings eventually emerging as anger, resentment, or emotional withdrawal. Perhaps you've learned to protect yourself by staying quiet, even when part of you longs to be seen and understood.

I’ve always felt a deep pull toward helping people. Over my 30 years as an educator, the students I’ve worked with have shaped who I am—teaching me about empathy, humility, and what it really means to feel seen and understood. If you appear to have it all together on the outside, yet feel anxious, overwhelmed, or not quite enough on the inside, you’re not alone. I work with students, educators, and adults who are looking for more than just a place to vent—people who are ready to better understand themselves and find a steadier way forward.

Far beneath the surface of your skin, upon the shores of your consciousness, there is a labyrinthine collection of parts waiting to be heard, felt and seen. The entryways that lead to these parts are often hidden, sometimes on forest floors, sometimes behind brick walls or mountains and sometimes in plain sight. But those who seek will find. Their doors have been waiting for them. You have heard the call, searched and found the door. I welcome you to your inner world where you will see for yourself your endless capacity for courage, calmness, compassion, confidence, clarity, connectedness and creativity.

Life can be hard. We all want to be heard and to have a place of validation as we navigate life issues. Knowing someone cares to listen and support as we come to accept difficult circumstances or make decisions for change can help us move through these challenging times.

You may be feeling anxious, burdened, or worn down – struggling with relationships, anxiety, grief, trauma, depression, or persistent self-criticism. Perhaps you long not only for relief, but for deeper healing, clarity, and rest. Many people I work with want therapy that goes beyond symptom reduction to engage the whole person – emotionally, relationally, bodily, and meaningfully. This includes those seeking a thoughtful space to make sense of suffering and grow toward a more grounded, purposeful life, as well as Christians who want therapy that takes faith seriously without minimizing psychological complexity.

There are times in a person's life when they reach an interior impasse. For any number of reasons, the realization gradually dawns on them that their inner freedom has been compromised and there is no clear understanding why. Often, this takes place in the context of relationship, whether with their spouse, family, friends or colleagues. While a family physician, social worker or another health professional can and do help, sometimes what is also needed is the help of a psychotherapist trained and certified in the art and science of talk therapy, the bedrock of all psychotherapy models. It can be the key to change and inner freedom.

Where is home for you? Not the address where you live, but the place you feel safe, loved, at peace, and like you belong. Maybe you have known this fully or only in glimpses. You might be sitting with disconnection from your body, your relationships, or spiritual and gender identities you are now questioning. If any of this sounds familiar, you are not alone, and there is a way home. Within a co-created safe space, I bring my fourteen years of dedicated spiritual practice and five years of land-based education to help clients navigate the complex intersections of their identities and root into their self-worth.

Many of us come to periods in our lives when we feel overwhelmed, confused or immobilized by our circumstances and our feelings. Or we reach a point in life when we know in our gut that something has to change, but we just don’t know where to begin. Doubt and negative self-talk can make us feel stuck. Sometimes we struggle with feelings of sadness, anger, shame or anxiety and can feel very alone in that struggle. Having a safe place to talk and a safe, non-judgmental person to talk to is key to healing and moving beyond the “stuck place”.

Many of my clients grew up with emotionally immature, critical, inconsistent, or unpredictable caregivers. They learned to be capable, self-reliant, and highly attuned to others, but now struggle with self-trust, boundaries, people-pleasing, anxiety, or feeling fully connected to themselves. You may be the “black sheep” in your family, the one who noticed unhealthy dynamics or chose a different path. You want to feel more grounded, clear, steady, and authentic in your relationships and daily life.

I believe every person carries a living relationship with psyche: a wellspring of wisdom that knows the way toward inner freedom. If you are drawn to living authentically and want to reconnect with your own sense of aliveness, something in you will probably already know this is the right fit. My work draws on Jungian, depth, attachment, and transpersonal psychology to support this kind of growth in good company. I have spent my career supporting sensitive, intuitive, spiritually curious people who want an ongoing practice of tending to their inner life, spirit, mind, and body. What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviours. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualisation, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
