I provide play therapy for children, somatic (body-based) and parts therapy for individuals, and utilize the Gottman Method for couples therapy.
Are you feeling stuck in your life or your relationship? Do you feel like you are always on edge, waiting for the next disappointment? Do you have disruptive thoughts or worries that prevent you from being present, kind and loving to yourself and others? Over time, and with experiences that leave us feeling hurt or shamed, we create defenses that shield us from these overwhelming emotions. Unfortunately, they also block us from feeling love and connection to ourselves and those we love. Together, we can bring about greater understanding and connection with yourself and in your relationships with others.

I primarily work from an Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Somatic Therapy lens, incorporating other models as needed.
The past throws stones to the present, and that is what brings many people to therapy. I believe we all have the capacity to heal, but often our own story can get in the way of that healing. If this is your first time seeking out a therapist or if you've done this before, it is my hope to work alongside you, at your pace, and collaborate to make a plan that addresses your needs. With this, it is important for you to choose a therapist who is a good fit and connects to your needs. I encourage you to explore my website and reach out to me to determine if I am a fit for you.

I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) to identify parts that limit us, mindfulness for emotional dysregulation, and Somatic Experiencing (SE) to release trauma from the body.
There’s a lot that holds us back from trying therapy. You may think you need a serious problem to see a therapist. But therapy is for everyone because, as humans, we experience sadness, grief, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation. The only qualification to go to therapy is to be human. You may ask, why not talk to a friend? Because friends aren’t trained to listen in a way that allows insights to emerge, wounds to open up, and traumas to be felt and released. Going to therapy is an act of self-love, an investment in your human potential and mental well-being.

Together, we’ll explore different approaches—like EMDR, CBT, IFS, somatic work, art, or even play—tailored to what works best for you.
I work with adults, children and families impacted by trauma, illness, grief and other life difficulties. Having worked for years surrounded by trauma and alongside first responders, I have come to believe that everyone has the capacity to heal. No matter how difficult or overwhelming the challenges may seem, I firmly believe that with patience, self-kindness and the right support it is possible to regain control of your life and create a brighter future. I strive to create a warm and supportive space where you can openly explore your thoughts, feelings, and memories that weigh you down.

In addition to my PhD studies, I recently completed a 2-year post-graduate certification in somatic and attachment-based psychotherapy.
My work focuses primarily on helping clients to understand and heal from complex trauma (CPTSD). Complex trauma is often defined as repeated exposure to fear, neglect, stress, or alienation that has a lasting negative impact on emotional well-being. Examples of complex trauma may include experiences of childhood neglect or abuse, bullying, partner abuse, or repeated early life exposure to social environments that are emotionally or financially scarce. Some of the concerns that I often help with include chronic fear (hypervigilance), anxiety, intrusive thoughts, emotional or visual flashbacks, depression, and low self-esteem.

She integrates the practice of Somatic Experiencing, social justice, and feminism.
Imagine being in a place where you feel safe, supported and accepted, in a way that moves you to tell your story to someone who listens to you fully and really hears what you are saying. Most of us rarely experience this. However, this is the experience Gladys strives to create for each of her clients: a space of understanding, curiosity and hope, one that naturally leads to the uncovering of answers to life's difficulties, to the resolving of the anxieties that surround you.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
