HELLO and WELCOME: Let's spend some time focusing on your needs. I will balance listening to your experiences, thoughts, and emotions with the introduction of exercises and techniques (often
somatic
or compassion-based) that will shift self-critical thoughts to self-compassion, build confidence, reduce stress and anxiety, bring ease to your mind, and soothe your autonomic nervous system. As an experienced therapist, I will empower, support, and guide you as you create positive and lasting change in your life. Clients report feeling understood and hopeful after the first session.

My work is grounded in attachment theory, while utilizing a trauma-informed lens, and CBT, mindfulness and
somatic
experiencing approaches.
I strive to create a warm, safe and accepting space to work towards your therapeutic goals and assist in your healing process. Although life happens to us, our healing has to happen at home - whether that means literally in our physical spaces, or in our mind and body within which we live. With this in mind, I created my own practice, Healing at Home Counselling and Wellness Services. With the philosophy that if our mind is supported, we can feel at home and safe in our body, our counselling services work from a person-centred, holistic approach which allows for an individually tailored intervention plan.

I believe that every person has the innate ability to live and harness an authentically bold and heart-centred life. Trauma and oppression disconnects us from this truth leaving behind lasting wounds that hurt our relationship to ourselves and others. I have worked with mental health, addiction and trauma for 20 years and have supported many individuals through their healing journey. I am trained in various integrative and relational therapies that address mind, body and spirit. I hold space and co-create safety so that you may listen and trust the wisdom within that empowers you towards more choice, freedom and boundless joy.

As a psychotherapist, with a
somatic
and psychodynamic orientation, I seek to support people in finding greater freedom, creativity, compassion, empowerment and aliveness in their lives. I believe the antidote to emotional struggles is finding a sense of vitality. Listening, identifying and staying with one's emotional world is the key to self awareness. As a psychotherapist my greatest task is to listen with compassion, for people to speak their deeper truths and to help them find an alternative pathways in living a life that expresses their authenticity and how to contribute with meaning in the world.

I have extensive training and knowledge in trauma and utilize various evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT, EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and
Somatic
Experiencing.
Life isn’t always easy. It can be hard, painful and even traumatic at times. Trauma and difficult life experiences can create challenges in many areas of life - it’s not uncommon to struggle with managing thoughts and emotions, relationships, and responsibilities. We do our best to lean on past ways of coping to help us through, and sometimes must acknowledge when more help is needed. Whether you struggle with emotional issues (anxiety, depression, PTSD, anger, low self-esteem), addiction, grief and loss, or relationship/family issues, I would welcome the opportunity to support your desire for authentic personal growth and healing.

My work with clients is a mix of internal family systems, narrative, strengths-based, compassion-focused, systemic, solution-focused, and
somatic
therapy.
Stories have always intrigued me because they helped me to understand how other people think and see the world. My interest in stories led me to social work: as I worked in the community, I learned the power of personal narratives to limit or expand the opportunities that my clients chose to pursue. I am particularly passionate about working with people experiencing life transitions. Transition periods can come at all stages of life. They can include a new diagnosis, the loss of employment, the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, the start of a new career, recovery after illness, or a faith crisis.

I primarily work from an Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR Therapy lens, incorporating mindfulness and
somatic
therapy as needed.
*Offering virtual trauma therapy throughout Ontario.* While I believe that everyone carries within themselves the capacity to heal, during difficult periods in life our personal strengths can be impossible to access. At these times, we may need a caring and non-judgmental therapist to assist us. My intention is to provide you with a safe space to share your concerns and to help you to fulfill the hopes you have for your life. As each individual is unique, so is therapy. I adapt my approach to meet your personal goals and together we will come to identify the process that best serves you.

I'm trained in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and
Somatic
Experiencing, two therapies that use your mind, body and emotion to transform your trauma into growth.
The smile you wear everyday on the outside is wearing you down on the inside. You've accomplished a lot, yet you still feel like you're coming up short. At the root of your anxiety is a familiar sense that you're not good enough unless you make something of yourself. It pushes you to excel at work, but it riddles you with doubt in your relationships and makes it hard to be honest about how you feel. You hold your feelings back from the people you love because you don't want to burden them. So you keep your struggles to yourself. This is the way it's always been, but you're reaching a breaking point.

How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
