Life can be hard. We're here to help. Struggling? Stuck? Overwhelmed? Looking for help moving forward? We can support you in moving toward your goals. We have experience in providing both brief and longer-term treatment that is evidence-based (i.e., shown to work). We're less interested in labels or in figuring out what’s “broken”, and instead focus on helping you to feel centred and "on track". We try to help you within your timeframe. We see the psychologist and client both as “real people”, having “real” conversations, about “real life”, to make real changes and real movement toward goals that are really important to you.

There’s a lot that holds us back from trying therapy. You may think you need a serious problem to see a therapist. But therapy is for everyone because, as humans, we experience sadness, grief, anxiety, and moments of overwhelm. The only qualification to go to therapy is to be human. You may ask, Why not talk to a friend? Because friends aren’t trained to listen in a way that allows insights to emerge, wounds to open up, and traumas to be released. Going to therapy is an act of self-love, an investment in your growth, potential and overall well-being.

Taking the first step toward therapy is an important and courageous decision. After 30 years in the field, I am still inspired by the bravery of my clients.
I view the therapeutic relationship as a partnership—built on attunement, respect, and collaboration. I consider myself a guide rather than an authority. Therapy is a dynamic process where both you and I are involved in its creation. I invite change, rather than impose or force it. This allows you the space to reclaim your voice in the healing process.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
