People often seek out therapy to work on their problems when really, it's their solutions that are no longer working. Does this sound familiar? As a skilled therapist, I will partner with you to clarify what is important and help you design creative, meaningful and lasting change in your life. In our work together, you will notice that I am very encouraging, and I will challenge you when you look like you could use it. Together we will create a space where you can bravely experience the sometimes-uncomfortable feelings that come with personal growth.

At certain times in our lives, we may feel like we are stuck. We struggle with maintaining our relationships with our significant other and families, have difficulty meeting work deadlines, or are unable to deal with the emotions of a traumatic event (ie. car accident or loss of a loved one). Counselling is a way to work through issues. Here are a few other reasons why individuals and couples may seek counselling: increased conflict and reduced connection due to anger, fear, depression, anxiety, sadness, self-esteem issues, grief, and trauma.

I believe that the goal of therapy is to help you get rid of the emotional clutter and debris that you don't want in your life any more; to free you from the entanglements that prevent you from achieving greater success, happiness, and fulfillment. If you have problems with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem, trauma, abuse, anger, or just need to find a way to stop feeling 'stuck', I can help. We will address the emotional problems, troublesome habits, and relationship roadblocks that that prevent you from getting where you want to go.

Facing loss, sorrow and grief can be so isolating. It can be hard to know where to turn, and often times a mainstream approach won't help. If you've faced trauma, loss, depression, grief, or struggle with your self-esteem or identity, I understand. I am sure that you want to feel deeper connections to yourself and others. You want to feel free and hopeful. You want to make meaning of loss and allow it to move you forward in a healthy way. You want to let go of traumatic responses that keep you stuck. Perhaps you're looking for healing methods that incorporate more than just talk therapy. I see you, and know that I can help you heal.

I believe life is lived in a gray zone and there is rarely a black-and-white solution to problems. When it comes to navigating challenges it is essential that we check in with our personalized beliefs, opinions, perspectives, and values. Each person has a different set of lived experiences that shape what is important to them, and I prioritize identifying each of these factors so you can feel self-assured as you move through life. These skills are essential when developing identity and building self-esteem.

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.
What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.
What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.
How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
