I am a white, cis-female, queer, creative woman, and I go by Heidi! Art therapy is a great way to hack the therapeutic process. Trying to work through something tough, but you can’t talk about it — or you don’t want to? Art Therapy gives you a way to express yourself that doesn’t require you to, or to be “good at art”! Art gives your brain a way to get things out that our conscious mind doesn’t want to think about. So much of our relationship conflict comes from what’s not being said. What are you not saying? To whom? What’s stopping you? Let’s find out.

I am passionate about supporting adults who struggle with ADHD, substance use disorders and other addiction, anger and personality disorders (such as Borderline Personality Disorder).
Many of us have become masters in pretending that things are fine, when in reality our lives seem to be falling apart. Inside we feel like we’re drowning: overwhelmed by emotion, lost, & hopeless as we try to carry the burden of unresolved trauma, pain, & life’s curveballs hurled our way. Pushing aside these problems to get through each day to manage life’s responsibilities, we find ourselves numb, depressed, anxious, self-medicating, isolating, angry, & struggling with relationships. Together, we can work towards confronting unhealthy behaviours, understanding emotions, & healing from past trauma to create transformational change.

Are you thriving? Or just surviving... All those racing thoughts that just won't stop are shitty. What's worked for you before isn't the vibe anymore. You're tired, can't focus on what matters to you, and know you need a change, You've had enough! It's time to unwind your anxiety and reclaim your calm

The Centre for Psychodynamic Insights is a virtual clinic specializing in psychodynamic psychotherapy. This approach explores the root causes of symptoms by uncovering and understanding underlying emotions through evidence-based treatment. Through collaborative dialogue, we examine unconscious thoughts and emotions shaped from childhood to the present. We work to relieve symptoms by understanding how these patterns affect current experiences, and create targeted strategies for meaningful change long-term.

You’ve spent so much of your life trying to make sense of a world that doesn’t always make sense to your brain. Maybe you’ve learned to mask and to push through burnout, but you’re exhausted from trying to “get it right.” In our work together, you are invited to show up as you are. Together, let’s explore how you can better understand and accept your unique mind, unmask safely, and build a more meaningful and authentically led life. Therapy with me isn’t about “fixing” you, it’s about helping you feel safe in your body, confident in your voice, and supported in creating a life that feels more like your own.

Have you noticed that you are not enjoying life like you use to? Whether that be in the bedroom, in your relationship, or in your day-to-day interactions. You may feel overwhelmed, hopeless, or down. You may feel like you are not good enough, or you’re not doing enough to keep your romantic relationship afloat. Overall, you just feel that something is not quite right, but are not sure what to do about it.

You may be carrying memories or emotions that feel too big, too old, or too painful to face. Maybe you’ve tried talk therapy and still feel stuck—held back by trauma, grief, or patterns you can’t seem to change. EMDR can be a powerful way to process what’s unresolved when you’re seeking relief, clarity, and a deeper sense of connection—with yourself and with others. You may be ready to stop living in survival mode and start feeling more grounded and present. I work with individuals who are ready to process the past and move forward. Together, we’ll access your resilience and work to restore a sense of calm, agency, and wholeness.

You’ve carried a heavy load for a long time—holding it together, pushing through pain, staying strong even when you feel like you’re falling apart inside. No matter what you do, it never feels “enough.” You second-guess yourself, replay conversations in your head, and sometimes wonder if you’re the problem. The people around you might not even notice how much you’re struggling because you’ve become so good at hiding it. Inside, though, it feels heavy—like you’re stuck in a loop of self-criticism, sadness, or emptiness that you just can’t shake.

Personality Disorders Counsellors

What are the common treatment options for personality disorders?

Personality disorders are typically treated with psychotherapy, sometimes in conjunction with medication. Therapy can help people with personality disorders develop skills to tolerate difficult emotions, navigate interpersonal relationships, and solidify their sense of self. Medications can treat symptoms that co-occur with the disorder, such as depression, anger, aggression, and impulsivity.

When to seek treatment for personality disorders?

Even though treatment for personality disorders can be an uphill battle, it’s best to seek help if you suspect that you or a loved one is struggling with one, because personality disorders can create substantial problems in life. Symptoms depend on the specific disorder, but overall signs of personality disorders include consistent difficulty maintaining close relationships, dramatic variations in self-esteem, and an unstable sense of identity.

How long does therapy take for personality disorders?

The timeline for treating personality disorders isn’t as clear-cut as it is for other disorders. Change can be difficult, taking from around one year to five, 10, or more. The key is finding a therapist who has extensive experience treating the relevant disorder. For example, a psychologist who specialises in narcissistic personality disorder has specific communication strategies that allow them to sustain the relationship and be more effective with narcissistic patients.

Can therapy help people with personality disorders?

Research suggests that for those who are motivated to address concerns or interpersonal conflict related to a personality disorder, therapy is far more effective than no treatment, and that most people in therapy see improvements. However, since personality disorders involve entrenched elements of identity, they are less responsive to treatment than are other mental health conditions. Finding an expert who has extensive experience working with a given personality disorder is one factor that increases the likelihood of successful treatment.
