As a therapist, reunification counsellor, mediator, parenting coordinator, and collaboratively trained professional, I specialize in offering a full range of therapeutic and alternative forms of conflict resolution to families in dispute. Regardless as to where you are in the lifecycle of your family or separation process, parents are assisted to identify their concerns, learn to address their needs, and to separate those needs from the needs of their children. Parents are encouraged to hear their children's voices and to embrace their roles responsibly as the adult decision makers charged with storying their children's legacy.

Is your child having a difficult time with their behaviour or emotions? Maybe they are having problems at home or school and you're not sure how best to support them. Perhaps you are looking to improve or better understand your relationship with your baby, toddler, child or youth, or maybe you would you like to feel more confident, calm or in control with your parenting . Being a parent can be so rewarding but can also leave you feeling frustrated, depleted and not sure where to turn. Our children unfortunately don't come with an instruction manual which is why finding the right support, at the right time, is so important.

With who you want to be, as a parent , a partner, a coworker, a human being.
Hi there, and welcome to this brave space. I am so glad you are here. I see you thinking that you’re failing...that you can’t keep up and you’re losing who you are as a person. So many people feel this way, that they no longer can manage the stresses of life. A recent loss. A new baby. A challenging relationship. Work demands. These experiences can really take a toll. You find yourself wondering, “Am I alone?” or “Will it always be like this?”

If you are a youth struggling with anxiety and lack of direction, or a couple struggling with conflict, or an adult feeling isolated while going through a personal crisis, or a parent experiencing child- parent conflict due to a cultural clash, you have all reached the right therapist.
CURRENTLY ACCEPTING CLIENTS. WEEKENDS AVAILABLE. I am an international social work practitioner. I have been practicing and teaching social work for the past 25 years. As I am a reflective listener, I have learned that each client's lived experience is an interesting biography. I, therefore, like to explore with clients the issues and problems they face in order to identify their roots. Naturally my approach to therapy is deeply rooted in people's freedom of choice. I consider myself patient, considerate, practical, and very respectful of clients and their choices.

Many people have found themselves in the exact place you now find yourself – wondering if they should seek the guidance of a professional counsellor for personal, marital or family problems. Here are some of their uncomfortable self-reflections: “Tensions always hover over my relationship with my partner.” “I want to be a better parent .” “I do not look forward to going to work anymore.” “My partner and I keep getting stuck when we try to talk about our problems.” “I want to enjoy being a parent , but often I do not.” “I want to feel happiness and gratitude for my life and the people in it, but I cannot get there.”

I have over 23 years of experience working both with individuals and families, and more specifically providing parent coaching, support and psychoeducation on how to best meet your child's needs.
Sometimes, despite the love we have for our family, it seems that we struggle to have peace within our relationships at home. In supporting families to make the changes they are seeking, I utilize Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) which focuses on restructuring parent and child interactions. I always look at every situation through the lens of being trauma-informed and understanding the role of attachment.

Life can be really challenging. Family dynamics and difficult personalities can make you feel like you’re reliving painful moments from the past. Being a parent , or trying to become one, can bring heartache and frustration. Infertility, loss, illness and anxiety can make life feel heavy, difficult, and rid you of vitality. This is where I come in to help. I can take you to better places. Healing doesn’t mean the pain never existed; it means the pain no longer controls our lives. I will create a space where you will feel safe and unconditionally supported to explore your thoughts, feelings, and worries, without judgement.

I became passionate about social work after practicing family law for many years and watching the court system fail parents and children experiencing separation and divorce. I have since completed my MSW to focus on therapeutic and collaborative co- parenting work, mediation, and help individuals navigate high-conflict separation and divorce, and healthy parenting post-divorce. I also enjoy helping individuals with anxiety, perfectionism, self-esteem, academic and career issues. Moreover, I have experience in supporting parents with their children’s learning disabilities, school, and issues with peers.

Parenting Counsellors

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
