I draw on attachment, psychodynamic, and grief theories, and mindfulness and narrative techniques.
Life can present us with challenges that leave us feeling diminished, confused, and unable to cope. I believe that each of us has the capacity to heal, find purpose, and create a path forward. My practice is dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing challenges resulting from past and current difficult relationships, life transitions, grief due to death loss and living losses such as divorce, loss of health and more; and challenges related to the experience of anxiety, depression, and trauma. I apply an anti-oppressive, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed lens guided by your needs, goals, and circumstances.

Working from a neuroscience, attachment, and trauma informed perspective - combined with therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, family therapy, and mindfulness , we will work together to better understand the source of the struggle that brought you to seek support and work to make positive change.
Welcome! While our brain is responsible for a lot of good, it can also be the source of struggles. Anxiety, depression, self-esteem, difficulties in relationships, struggles in parenting, all stem from the way our brain fires. I began my career in the field infant and children’s mental health. Working with children and families, many of whom experienced early trauma, I developed a better understanding of the impact of early experiences on social, emotional, relational, and cognitive development. This led me to the field of neuropsychotherapy - how our brain and biology influence our mental health and behaviour.

Drawing from Acceptance and Commitment therapy, self-compassion and mindfulness , my approach to counselling is, at its core, relational.
Parenthood is vulnerable and raw, yet we are asked to present perfection to the outside world. In moments, you may feel the happiest you’ve ever felt, yet perhaps also the most lonely and lost. You want the best for your child, sometimes to your own detriment. You deserve the same tending to and care that you give to your child and I hope through our time together, you can get in touch with a new sense of self-compassion, acceptance and connection to meaningful motherhood.

Certified in Emotion Focused Mindfulness , and using many mindfulness based therapies including, MBSR, MBCT, Self-Compassion, as well as CBT, Grief and Loss, Motivational Interviewing & Positive Psychology.
Life will bring challenges and difficult times that can cause feelings of confusion, fear, anxiety, depression…and numbness. We also experience transitions and losses, not only through the death of people we love, but loss of our health, relationships, jobs, dreams. Without relief, chronic stressors can bring up feelings of fear and resistance and a lack of belief that we can cope. Some events and relationships may leave deeper, traumatic wounds. Sometimes it just feels like it is all ‘too much’. Whatever challenge brings you here, together we can work with and process these feelings.

My work is grounded in attachment theory, while utilizing a trauma-informed lens, and CBT, mindfulness and somatic experiencing approaches.
I strive to create a warm, safe and accepting space to work towards your therapeutic goals and assist in your healing process. Although life happens to us, our healing has to happen at home - whether that means literally in our physical spaces, or in our mind and body within which we live. With this in mind, I created my own practice, Healing at Home Counselling and Wellness Services. With the philosophy that if our mind is supported, we can feel at home and safe in our body, our counselling services work from a person-centred, holistic approach which allows for an individually tailored intervention plan.

If you have experienced loss, I can offer a safe space and a listening ear for you to express your feelings. Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
