My speciality is working with young
men
and adolescents aged 12 - 30, but I enjoy working with people of any age, gender and background.
In a world that is becoming increasingly complicated every day, therapy is a safe space away from the pressures of daily life where you can explore your concerns without judgement. My aim as a therapist is to create an environment where I can support you in exploring what is bothering you and we can work as a team to find solutions that are tailored to your unique story and circumstances. I draw from a range of therapies but my main guiding principles come from a strengths-based perspective. I believe above all that YOU are the expert in your own life and that I am merely here to help you on your road to self-actualization.

Hello, as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) I have had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of clients with an assortment of concerns throughout my practicum and into the start of my career. I take pride in being able to help clients assess where improvements are needed and strengths are present. I tailor our sessions based on your needs while pulling from various therapeutic modalities. I most commonly support clients through the use of CBT, DBT, solution focused strategies and ultimately, a person centered approach. As a young

In my 40 year career as a clinical social worker, I have gained extensive experience in developing, effecting, and managing therapeutic approaches for individuals and families who bear the damage of sexual abuse. I am prepared to offer help for many problem areas but I give special emphasis to
male
and female adults and youth who have committed, or are at risk of committing, or have been the victim of problematic sexual behaviour, This includes clients with special needs such as intellectual disability. I also support families with safety planning for child protection cases or with family resolution/reintegration.

As a proud Mohawk
man
, I specialize in therapy that incorporates the mind, body and spirit using teachings from my Elders.
Facing loss, sorrow and grief can be so isolating. It can be hard to know where to turn, and often times a mainstream approach won't help. If you've faced trauma, loss, depression, grief, or struggle with your self-esteem or identity, I understand. I am sure that you want to feel deeper connections to yourself and others. You want to feel free and hopeful. You want to make meaning of loss and allow it to move you forward in a healthy way. You want to let go of traumatic responses that keep you stuck. Perhaps you're looking for healing methods that incorporate more than just talk therapy. I see you, and know that I can help you heal.

Having spent many years working with
men
's issues and anger, and the impact it has on their partners, their jobs, and their functioning, I'm in a unique position to help.
Sometimes
men
are great at pretending everything's fine – even when life is falling apart. Trying to carry the weight of the world all by yourself is a sure path to depression, anger issues, self-medicating, lashing out, and increased stress and physical symptoms. Whether you're trying to figure out what your partner wants (what does she mean by "communicate better" anyway?), or you're needing to talk through personal, work, or family issues, I can help you get to a better place. If you're worried that you're the only one, don't. There is literally nothing you can tell me that I haven't heard or worked with before.

I also work to address
men
's unique concerns in coping with social expectation, masculinity, emotion, sexuality, and gender roles.
I believe that the goal of therapy is to help you get rid of the emotional clutter and debris that you don't want in your life any more; to free you from the entanglements that prevent you from achieving greater success, happiness, and fulfillment. If you have problems with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem, trauma, abuse, anger, or just need to find a way to stop feeling 'stuck', I can help. I believe we all have an innate felt sense of our mental well being. Even if we cannot describe it or identify the cause of our emotional challenges we know something is wrong. In my Experience people seek counselling for a variety of reasons. It may be that their emotional struggles are beginning to become greater than our ability to cope, or perhaps they have a feeling that something is off but they can’t quite put their finger on it. Whatever the reason, engaging in counselling comes from a strong, brave place.

Male Counsellors
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
