My therapeutic approach draws heavily from
family
systems theory, cognitive/behavioural therapy, developmental psychology, and trauma/attachment theory.
As a therapist, reunification counsellor, mediator, parenting coordinator, and collaboratively trained professional, I specialize in offering a full range of therapeutic and alternative forms of conflict resolution to families in dispute. Regardless as to where you are in the lifecycle of your
family
or separation process, parents are assisted to identify their concerns, learn to address their needs, and to separate those needs from the needs of their children. Parents are encouraged to hear their children's voices and to embrace their roles responsibly as the adult decision makers charged with storying their children's legacy.

Yet, I also draw on CBT, DBT, solutions-focused, and internal
family
systems therapies, among others.
[Note: RSW, Inactive/On Leave] Life can be challenging, and although we all have the inner resources to overcome these hardships, we may benefit from some extra support to move us towards mental wellness and our ideal self. As a therapist, I offer individual and group therapy to youth (ages 12-30) who present with concerns related but not limited to anxiety, depression, emotion regulation, relationships, and school/work. Together, we will co-create goals and a therapeutic plan by exploring factors that may contribute to the issue(s) at hand but also personal strengths that can be leveraged within recovery.

I tailor my sessions to match each individual person/couple/
family
I work with.
Are ADHD symptoms negatively impacting your life? I will work with you to make your life ADHD friendly, instead of you continuing to try and force yourself into a neurotypical mold. Are you having trouble communicating with the people in your life? I work with people who have trouble with identifying and enforcing boundaries. We can work together to increase your knowledge and ability to better communicate with people in interpersonal and romantic relationships. If you often don't feel heard or misunderstood, I can help you to figure out how to speak with people in a way that will help you to be heard and understood.

life and other relations.
CURRENTLY ACCEPTING CLIENTS. WEEKENDS AVAILABLE. I am an international social work practitioner. I have been practicing and teaching social work for the past 25 years. As I am a reflective listener, I have learned that each client's lived experience is an interesting biography. I, therefore, like to explore with clients the issues and problems they face in order to identify their roots. Naturally my approach to therapy is deeply rooted in people's freedom of choice. I consider myself patient, considerate, practical, and very respectful of clients and their choices.

Taking New Clients! We all strive to be happy. But some days life can feel so overwhelming its hard to breathe. We may feel anxious, sad or frustrated, and it's hard to cope with day to day challenges. Our feelings can impact our relationships with our
family
, our ability at work, or time with our friends. They may cause self-doubt, social issues and health concerns. Often we have no idea where these feelings are coming from. We just know we are hurting. But to effectively address these feelings we need to have a better understanding of what's causing the difficulties.

Life isn’t always easy. It can be hard, painful and even traumatic at times. Trauma and difficult life experiences can create challenges in many areas of life - it’s not uncommon to struggle with managing thoughts and emotions, relationships, and responsibilities. We do our best to lean on past ways of coping to help us through, and sometimes must acknowledge when more help is needed. Whether you struggle with emotional issues (anxiety, depression, PTSD, anger, low self-esteem), addiction, grief and loss, or relationship/
family
issues, I would welcome the opportunity to support your desire for authentic personal growth and healing.

Are you working so hard in every aspect of your life only to feel like things still aren’t good enough? Like your relationships are destined for failure, you’ll never be able to cope with the curveballs life throws at you, and there’s something inside yourself that just feels… wrong? Maybe you've convinced yourself that if it just looks like you have the perfect career, relationship, and
family
, that somehow it will become your reality. I’ve been down this same road, and what I eventually realized was that, when I spent all my time focused on being "better" or achieving more, I lost sight of myself and those who mattered most to me.

As a parent, do you often ask yourself how you could do things differently, feeling guilty or ashamed about the way you manage
family
situations? Struggling with cycles of negative emotion can leave you feeling alone, anxious, and depressed. Perhaps you feel disconnected from yourself, your partner, and/or your children, and you wish your
family
dynamic could come together more easily. Practicing acceptance and establishing emotional safety may seem like impossible feats, but know that there is a way.

You are feeling so overwhelmed that it's hard to remember what "good" felt like. Some days you wonder if you ever actually felt good. On top of it all, there's Covid, and all these unprecedented worries, and limitations. The minor strains you felt in your life are suddenly exploding. Perhaps you work from home as you try to balance the needs of your
family
, and struggle with juggling it all. Maybe you feel angry and dread an uncertain future. Many people feel hopeless, frustrated, anxious, and stressed. You are challenged to manage enormous change with little time to process it. You feel like you are at the end of your rope.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
