Finally, my relational work incorporates Gottman and EFT to help you communicate your needs with more vulnerability.
Are you disappointed with how you are showing up in your relationship? Are you struggling to manage your emotions and often find yourself blowing up, shutting down, or fixing during conflict? Have you reached a breaking point in your relationship and are in the process of transitioning to being on your own? If you relate to this and notice some of these patterns in your relationship or are trying to understand how it all went wrong I am here. I want to help you learn more about yourself so you can better relate to others and communicate your needs from a grounded place so that you can break the cycle you find yourself stuck in.

I also weave in EMDR, narrative therapy, IFS and EFT into my work.
Facing loss, sorrow and grief can be so isolating. It can be hard to know where to turn, and often times a mainstream approach won't help. If you've faced trauma, loss, depression, grief, or struggle with your self-esteem or identity, I understand. I am sure that you want to feel deeper connections to yourself and others. You want to feel free and hopeful. You want to make meaning of loss and allow it to move you forward in a healthy way. You want to let go of traumatic responses that keep you stuck. Perhaps you're looking for healing methods that incorporate more than just talk therapy. I see you, and know that I can help you heal.

Couple therapy is dynamic in considering both perspectives, & my focus is on attachment & Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Individually, clients might want to work on a wide variety of issues from their life experiences, and it is the client who directs what to address. A Cognitive Behaviour handout is useful to reduce negativity. For couples, we discern what blocks are interfering with your loving connection, and practise those healing conversations in the session.

I am trained in EMDR, EFT, attachment and behavioural therapies.
The thought of talking to stranger about deeply personal issues can feel daunting. Talking to a therapist who values your story and perspective can guide understanding, empowerment and healing. Whether you are beginning to notice a sense of dissatisfaction with life, difficulty with relationships or heightening anxiety therapy is a space to feel heard and validated . Pressure and expectations can leave us feeling alone and wondering how we ended up here. Sometimes things happen that are outside of our control, things that impact us in ways that we never could have imagined. You are important and understanding yourself matters.

While I use my Family Systems training as the basis for my work, I am well-versed in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, & Emotionally Focused Therapy- integrating the best practices from each of these models!
Sometimes you need to sit before you can rise! Life can be challenging and making sense of those challenges is difficult especially if you have been stuck for a long time. Oftentimes, we don't pause long enough to understand why we are struggling. I want to allow you to sit, talk, learn, and then apply what you have discovered to your life. The key to my practice is providing a space where clients feel safe to share, learn and develop strategies to move them forward.

Emotionally Focused Counsellors

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
