Jan 30, 2023 - started wait list. I understand that you might be nervous to reach out to a therapist, especially if you’ve had trouble with other services in the past. I have experience supporting LGBQ, Trans, and Nonbinary adults and youth and their family members, members of the LGBTQ community who have struggled with navigating identity and spirituality, and anyone who struggles with constant negative self-talk. If you have some goals in mind to work toward, feel free to reach out. I can offer a consultation and give you some time to decide whether you feel we would be a good fit to work together.

Do the words "highly sensitive" resonate with you? Do you feel overwhelmed and misunderstood by others in your life? Feel that the world is too busy, too loud, too much? As a highly sensitive soul myself- I get it! I support highly sensitive and neurodivergent young adults who struggle with people-pleasing, perfectionism and ‘fitting in’. Let’s work together to find your voice and walk towards a life that feels more authentic and aligned. A life where you feel empowered in your sensitivity, worth and values. A life where there is intentional space for calm, joy and boundaries.

I excel at working with people who feel weighed down by self-criticism, perfectionism and the fear of being discovered a fraud or something awful. My goal in our therapy sessions is to help you gain confidence, clarity and the ability to treat yourself kindly. Through a mix of self-compassion exercises and analysis of self-criticism we can work together to move beyond emotional and life barriers to achieve your goals.

Far beneath the surface of your skin, upon the shores of your consciousness, there is a labyrinthine collection of parts waiting to be heard, felt and seen. The entryways that lead to these parts are often hidden, sometimes on forest floors, sometimes behind brick walls or mountains and sometimes in plain sight. But those who seek will find. Their doors have been waiting for them. You have heard the call, searched and found the door. I welcome you to your inner world where you will see for yourself your endless capacity for courage, calmness, compassion, confidence, clarity, connectedness and creativity.

Life is truly filled with so many layers (just like an onion!) which can make it hard to know where to start when it comes to counselling. Hi, I'm Julie (she/her) and I deeply believe in the beauty of connection. Currently, I'm completing my Master of Psychotherapy at Wilfrid Laurier University. My own journey with mental health and being neurodivergent has truly inspired my passion for this field. I work with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, chronic pain, ADHD/ASD, self-esteem, and couples counselling. I am also deeply passionate about working with 2slgbtqia+ individuals and the queer community.

The clients I serve in my practice are women, people of colour, indigenous communities and lgbt2sq identified people. You’ve been in therapy before and although you’ve seen results you aren’t yet at the place you want to be. Feelings of stress, anxiety, stuckness and depression are familiar to you. You’ve been going in circles in your relationships and your career and now you’re ready to dig deeper. Your core beliefs keep pulling you back into old patterns like people pleasing, controlling behaviours, co-dependency, and difficulty prioritizing yourself and identifying your needs.

Finding the right therapist can be really challenging, especially when you’re going through a hard time. Clients have said that my approach is uniquely helpful because everything I do is grounded in self-compassion. I am here to help you process traumas or better understand how your past continues to impact you. We can explore your relationship with alcohol and other drugs or make changes like stopping, using less, or more safely. If you're feeling stuck or overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, or difficult thoughts and emotions, we will identify who is the person you want to be and build skills to create the life you want to live.

I am a white, cis-female, queer, creative woman, and I go by Heidi! Art therapy is a great way to hack the therapeutic process. Trying to work through something tough, but you can’t talk about it — or you don’t want to? Art Therapy gives you a way to express yourself that doesn’t require you to, or to be “good at art”! Art gives your brain a way to get things out that our conscious mind doesn’t want to think about. So much of our relationship conflict comes from what’s not being said. What are you not saying? To whom? What’s stopping you? Let’s find out.

How can I find a therapist in London?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
