I work with teens & young adults navigating low self-esteem, self-doubt, anxiety, and people-pleasing tendencies.
Accepting New Clients! You second-guess yourself constantly, compare your life to everyone else’s, and feel like you’re falling behind. Maybe you apologize too often, avoid saying what you really need, or shrink yourself to keep the peace. Underneath it all is a loud inner critic and a quiet sense of self-worth. I work with young adults who feel stuck, unsure of who they are or where they’re headed. Together, we’ll unpack how low self-esteem is showing up in your life—and start building the confidence, clarity, and calm you’ve been craving.

We will dig into the root issues of anger, fear, depression, anxiety, lack of self esteem, and trauma in order to assist you with achieving a full and meaningful life.
At certain times in our lives, we may feel like we are stuck. We struggle with maintaining our relationships at home or work, have difficulty meeting deadlines, or are unable to discuss difficult topics with loved ones. Counselling is a way to work through these issues. Here are a few other reasons why individuals and couples may seek counselling: reduced emotional and physical connection due to strained communication and increased conflict, infidelity, workplace conflict/bullying, recent separation or divorce, and an inability to find a suitable partner. These situations can cause immense pain.

Gladys provides counselling to individuals 18 and older, who may be struggling with a variety of issues, including trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship challenges and self-esteem, to name a few.
Imagine being in a place where you feel safe, supported and accepted, in a way that moves you to tell your story to someone who listens to you fully and really hears what you are saying. Most of us rarely experience this. However, this is the experience Gladys strives to create for each of her clients: a space of understanding, curiosity and hope, one that naturally leads to the uncovering of answers to life's difficulties, to the resolving of the anxieties that surround you.

I work with client to help them understand their anxiety, depression, or trauma and help them develop the resources they need to relieve the symptoms they experience.
Isn't life overwhelming sometimes? You may find it hard to keep up with your daily activities or find yourself worrying all the time, unsure how to move forward or get unstuck. Connection with others may feel elusive, leaving you feeling alone and isolated. Activities you once found enjoyable leave you feeling empty. Or maybe you find yourself thinking about past events such as a childhood trauma, significant loss or other traumatic event. These challenges may act as a barrier to achieving a life that is resilient, happy and fulfilling.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
