People often come for therapy as they are hurting or distressed and they have found that they are confused about how to move forward. They can be worried about someone else, are having difficulty with relationships with their spouse, children, or coworkers. Some people prefer to attend therapy on their own, while others wish to include the family member they are concerned about. I see people with depression,
anxiety
, attention difficulties, obsessive compulsive disorder, substance abuse, adjustment issues (separation and divorce).

*ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS* I help people struggling with
anxiety
/depression develop strategies to help them feel even 1% better/less stressed day by day. Client's have told me that thinking about their wellness journey in these smaller 1% steps is less overwhelming. Those 1%'s will start to add up! I am easy to talk to and down to earth. If you aren't sure what happens in therapy, give me a call! I would be happy to explain the process to you. The consultation is a great time to do a quick "vibe check" to see if we click and if you like my approach. If I am not the right fit for you, I will help connect you to someone who can help you!

By gaining insight into the patterns that no longer serve us and the confidence, skills, and support to make meaningful changes, genuine growth and fulfillment become possible. anxiety
, or simply wanting to understand ourselves better, psychotherapy can provide the expert guidance and confidential, non-judgemental, safe space needed to help you achieve your goals.

Have you been struggling with
anxiety
or depression? Feeling stuck? Maybe you had a traumatic experience and you know it still affects you but you don't know how. Often times, we can't simply talk our way out of trauma, depression or
anxiety
. It can impact the relationship between our body and mind and can even manifest as chronic pain, digestive issues, poor self-esteem and relationship difficulties. Art therapy can offer a container to explore difficult experiences and emotions, to hold things that may be difficult to put into words. It can provide effective coping strategies and help you build a healthy relationship with self.

Feeling like you just try to escape from life? Maybe you’ve just had a baby. Perhaps you have scary thoughts and feelings of self doubt that have left you wondering if you’ve made the right decision. You just don’t feel good and question if you ever will again. Maybe you find yourself worrying or you’re constantly feeling sad and have no interest in the things you once enjoyed. Likely you find yourself avoiding situations or having difficulty just getting through the day. Perhaps you’ve experienced a major life change such as a move, a new job, changes to your family unit and you’re having difficulty dealing with this change.

I've experienced great success with clients when we've worked to understand the brain and body and why
anxiety
happens.
***ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS*** Everyone experiences stress; not everyone's experience of stress is the same. Thoughts swirl and you might find yourself unable to settle the thoughts enough to sleep. You might worry about your kids, your job, or your relationships. You might have trouble communicating what you need from your family and friends, and you might wonder why others seem to handle their
anxiety
better than you do. Stress and
anxiety
are powerful. They can stop you from going places, or enjoying a social function or attempting something big, or even getting out of the house at all. It's really common, and you're not alone.

As someone who struggles with
anxiety
, it can sometimes feel like a label or something we just have to learn to "deal with" as a part of life. You often find yourself wondering what you can do to help yourself “get rid of this feeling” or feel better in some way. Your life has felt impacted by your
fears
and worries, and your thoughts spiral daily. You know you have so much potential - but your
anxiety
& stress have had an impact on so many aspects of your life, work, and relationships. It can be scary to reach out to a therapist because you want to make sure that you find someone who really gets you and what you are going through.

The smile you wear everyday on the outside is wearing you down on the inside. You've accomplished a lot, yet you still feel like you're coming up short. At the root of your
anxiety
is a familiar sense that you're not good enough unless you make something of yourself. It pushes you to excel at work, but it riddles you with doubt in your relationships and makes it hard to be honest about how you feel. You hold your feelings back from the people you love because you don't want to burden them. So you keep your struggles to yourself. This is the way it's always been, but you're reaching a breaking point.

At certain times in our lives, we may feel like we are stuck. We struggle with maintaining our relationships with our significant other and families, have difficulty meeting work deadlines, or are unable to deal with the emotions of a traumatic event (ie. car accident or loss of a loved one). Counselling is a way to work through issues. Here are a few other reasons why individuals and couples may seek counselling: increased conflict and reduced connection due to anger, fear, depression,
anxiety
, sadness, self-esteem issues, grief, and trauma.

I specialize in providing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and teaching coping skills for
anxiety
and depression.
I believe we all have an innate felt sense of our mental well being. Even if we cannot describe it or identify the cause of our emotional challenges we know something is wrong. In my Experience people seek counselling for a variety of reasons. It may be that their emotional struggles are beginning to become greater than our ability to cope, or perhaps they have a feeling that something is off but they can’t quite put their finger on it. Whatever the reason, engaging in counselling comes from a strong, brave place.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
