If you are focused on an abstinence-based recovery from drugs and alcohol and are confused about the processes of change or how to get started and then maintain it, then we should talk. I specialize in helping those that have difficulty with navigation of harm-reduction or the 12 step process by aiding in the creation of a long-term plan focused on the quality of life while not using psychoactive substances. If you are confused by the concept of addiction recovery please set up a free consultation to help you to understand what's next. *Privacy and confidentiality are of the utmost importance to me and all of my clients.*

Virtual (on-line) counselling will be my current mode of therapy. Peace and Balance versus Anxiety and Stress. My passion is helping people empower themselves to cope better in their lives.. in relationships, in self-confidence, in spirituality. Sometimes we need to talk about very personal things with an objective, compassionate, nonjudgmental listener. I have worked for over 25 years helping people find themselves and find their 'peace of mind.'

I've worked therapeutically with diverse populations, in correctional and community settings, with families, adolescents and adults, for about 20 years. My approach is nuanced and responsive; my lens is anti-oppressive, attachment and trauma informed, queer and trans affirming, and psycho-dynamically and somatically attuned. To me, this means listening to, and noticing with you, communication from various verbal and non-verbal levels. It also means witnessing and acknowledging cultural, systemic, and familial legacies of power and oppression and their impact on our internal and external lives.

I have been a practicing clinical social worker for 50 years. Love my work which explains why I am still providing therapy into my semi-retirement years. I believe in the all important therapeutic relationship. Without that connection with that person I serve not much growth or change can happen. I congratulate my clients for making that difficult call to me but then challenge him/her/ them to make change, explore, reflect and discover what they want to do about the issues that brought them to to counselling. The therapeutic principles that I adhere to over the 50 years include: 1- Individualization: based on the right of

I enjoy working with individuals, families, and couples. This might be the first time you are seeking counselling or you may be seeking for a different counselling experience, picking the right counsellor for you is important. It is important to understand how we interpret our experiences and how they affects us. Our environments also have the ability to impact the way we interpret our experiences and interactions; it can be helpful to develop an awareness of the common miscommunication we experience based on our past experiences and in challenging ourselves to take steps towards wellness.

I am the 2012 Neinstein award winner for my trauma recovery work. I have been educated, trained & experienced in using multiple therapeutic interventions. I work with diverse human beings with diverse mental wellness challenges. I practice compassionate inquiry with an anti-oppressive edge. I am unconventional & non-traditional. I value transparency, which means I practice with honesty & sincerity & honour how you show up. I assist in eliminating your self-doubt by guiding you to an understanding of the roots of blame, shame & guilt in your familial & social conditioning & how these manifest in “dis ease” in the mind & body.

Relationships are both wonderful and challenging. There are many times in a relationship when couple's therapy can be a beneficial, meaningful, and insightful experience. Maybe you are starting a long term commitment, you have become parents, or you are dealing with affairs, addictions, grief, or separation/divorce. You might want to attend therapy to preempt issues, because the road has gotten a little bumpy, or as a last ditch effort. I love supporting folks at any stage. We’ll move through what your experience is in the relationship to figure out areas that you want to work on to make your relationship flourish.

I am seasoned and passionate therapist and I believe the clients have to look for the "best fit" therapist and they will be the judge of the work I do. My approach is completely through emotional intelligence, mindfulness, with care, respect, and evidence based approach, knowing that client is not broken or need to be "fixed" yet might need someone non-judgmental with compassionate heart and mind to be fully present in their space or journey.

Are you at a loss? Can't seem to think straight? Is everything is coming at you too fast? Are you at the point where you just want to throw in the towel? Do you feel stuck, like no matter what you do nothing works? Have you lost sight of what you once enjoyed? I believe that things can work out, but sometimes you need a nudge to get you started. That sometimes someone needs someone to listen, to hear what they have to say without fear of judgement. That no body is lost, and we can find our way back to a way of life that makes us happy.

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
