Being a teenager in today's society is NOT easy and I am committed to going at your own pace and being there for you through all the difficulties.
Free Consultation, Ages 12+, In-Person or Video - -> Hi! I'm Christine and I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the CRPO. Many years ago, a therapist helped me through my own battle with mental health and since then, I have been determined to help others in the same way. I have a special interest in working with trauma where we use a 3-stage "Trauma-Informed CBT" approach to help you learn to regulate your emotions, explore your narrative, identify irrational thought processes, and reconnect with others. Your therapy with me will be primarily led by you with some guided structure from me.

Life is a balancing act, and sometimes we need a little guidance and support to maintain that balance. An experienced therapist can help us move through difficult times, better understand our families/relationships, and find our inner sense of peace, well being and wisdom. Having a neutral, non-judgmental place to share difficulties, receive validation and support can be very beneficial. Collaboration to reach your goal is an essential element of our work together. The client brings open communication, a desire for change and I will listen unconditionally and without judgment. We will work together to help you hear your inner voice.

I believe you - or your child or your teen - know far more about what you each need than you realize.
Do you know the feeling where you just don't know what to do or say? Maybe it is your child grappling with someone bullying them at school. Maybe you and your partner are feeling totally unsure how to be the parents and partners you both want to be. Maybe something tragic and life changing has happened and things are indescribably different - in ways you never wanted. Maybe you are seeing your teen shrink away from life in ways that seem totally out of character. Somehow your own life - your own family, your own children, your own choices - can feel like a mystery.

Having kids is amazing and wonderful. And very, very hard. No one really talks about how hard it is, which makes the rest of us feel like we're doing something wrong. The baby you walked the floor with at night is gone. You have no idea what changed and sometimes you have no idea what's going on. That sweet baby has become a sassy tween, a grunting teen , or is struggling in some way. It's affecting your relationship, your work, and (most importantly!) YOU. Your parenting style isn't working, or you're not sure you ever had one. Whether you want to work on you, your relationships, or your parenting, I would love to help.

I believe we all dream to live lives of more and lives of less. More: happiness, peace, joy, health, achieving meaningful goals, and joy in relationships. The opposite is also true, we seek lives with less. Less: stress, illness, negativity, pain, bad relationship habits, trauma, anger, and disconnection. Are you one of millions of 1st generation Canadians trapped between 2 worlds? Is it time to create your own life? Do you experience Anxiety, depression, maternal loss/fertility struggles, growing up "fine but feeling empty", or loveless parenting--all of which can hold you back or instill panic. Small steps can feel overwhelming.

People see you as dependable, organized, and always smiling. Someone they can always rely on for help or support, someone who will always make time for other's. But on the inside you feel like a fraud, overwhelmed, exhausted from trying to keep up this charade, and even resentful at times.

Life can be a bit much sometimes. Growth and healing, and knowing where to start can be overwhelming. There are folx here on this Earth who will be honored to support your journey, I am (may be) one of them. You may need help slowing down, finding peace and joy, making room for more breath, and/or making sense of some of the patterns in your life that aren't working. When you have experienced trauma, your whole system can feel challenged day to day. You might struggle with persistent anxiety, feelings of shame and hopelessness and have a bleak outlook on the future. You can feel exhausted by your circumstances and truly at a loss for how to change or heal. Trauma impacts your thinking, your happiness, your quality of life and your joy. You can often find yourself engaging in behaviours that don't serve you, trying to numb out or manage the pain. It can feel hard to get close to anyone. It can be so hard to trust yourself, or other people. I completely understand, and I help people change daily.

I believe that meaningful therapeutic change is not possible without first establishing a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. I will work with clients to understand their personal style, strengths, needs and goals. My therapeutic approach is integrative; I use a variety of evidence-based techniques mainly from relationship-, emotion-, and cognitive behavioural-focused therapies. My goal is to understand the client as a whole person, considering their early histories, learning styles, and social-emotional functioning.

Teen Counsellors

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
