Life can present us with challenges that leave us feeling diminished, confused, and unable to cope. I believe that each of us has the capacity to heal, find purpose, and create a path forward. My practice is dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing challenges resulting from past and current difficult relationships, life transitions, grief due to death loss and living losses such as divorce, loss of health and more; and challenges related to the experience of anxiety, depression, and trauma. I apply an anti-oppressive, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed lens guided by your needs, goals, and circumstances.

With
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy, as a new and more effective approach, I help personal issues.
It is all about negative thoughts about yourself and others causing negative emotions, therefore unhelpful behaviors. In cordial and culturally sensitive sessions we will learn to be aware of negative thoughts and focus on the present moment. My role is to help you explore your strengths and resources with compassion and empathy in order for you to get out of the place you are stuck. This will lead you to a more meaningful and purposeful life where you have healthy relationships with yourself and others. We practice from an
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy (
ACT
) standpoint. We're less interested in labels or in figuring out what’s “broken”, preferring to work with you to find ways to shift processes to help you with your goals. We have experience in providing both brief and longer-term treatment that is evidence-based (i.e., shown to work). We try to help you within your timeframe. We see the psychologist and client both as “real people”, having “real” conversations, about “real life”, to make real changes that are really important to you.

Are you ready to better understand yourself and your patterns? Do you want to learn how to respond to life's challenges in way that feels more aligned with the person you want to be? I work with individuals experiencing increased anxiety, stress, low mood, work burnout, body image, family or relationship issues getting in the way of living your life fully. It feels like you're just surviving or existing day to day rather than being fully present in your life. Maybe you're starting to notice some negative patterns, but you're not quite sure where they came from or how to change them.

Daytime appointments available - When we aren't feeling like the best version of ourselves, it's tough to engage in our lives in the way we would like to; our daily stress adds up and pulls us away from the things that are important to us. Whether little things in your life are piling up and becoming overwhelming or you are in the midst of a major life transition, accessing support is an important first step to living a value-driven life. Sometimes we are feeling alright, but we aren't where we want to be. Having dedicated time and space to process our thoughts with an unbiased listener can build the insight we need to thrive.

Most people will face challenges in their lives, whether it's symptoms of a mental health concern (e.g. anxiety/depression) or situational (e.g. work, relationships). These challenges can lead us off track, struggling to cope and we find ourselves feeling unfulfilled or distressed. I work with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, stress, relationship issues, trauma, grief and work/life balance concerns. I aim to tailor my approach to each individual client so they feel able to implement the change they want. This may include a focus on learning skills or building a deeper awareness.

Life can be really challenging. Family dynamics and difficult personalities can make you feel like you’re reliving painful moments from the past. Being a parent, or trying to become one, can bring heartache and frustration. Infertility, loss, illness and anxiety can make life feel heavy, difficult, and rid you of vitality. This is where I come in to help. I can take you to better places. Healing doesn’t mean the pain never existed; it means the pain no longer controls our lives. I will create a space where you will feel safe and unconditionally supported to explore your thoughts, feelings, and worries, without judgement.

Life is not about suffering but many individuals are stuck in a cycle of crisis, chaos and numbing, wondering why they keep landing right back in the same place. As a Social Worker for over 20 years I have witnessed struggle turn into peace, sadness turn into joy and worry transform into
acceptance
. If you are ready for change I would be honoured to support you through your personal growth.

In my practice, this means being genuine, empathic, and showing
acceptance
and support.
Most of us have felt stuck - as though we are simply getting by doing the things we've always done. Usually those behaviours - thoughts, feelings, and actions - developed because, at some point in our lives, they were useful! They helped us to survive situations that seemed unconquerable at the time. Now these same behaviours may lead to isolation, emptiness, worry, or avoidance, and we feel uncertain how to change them. Having an opportunity to observe those behaviours, without judgement, can help us understand what we want out of life, and can lead us towards a sense of fulfillment and meaning.

Is your chronic illness holding you back? Please know that you are worthy of living a fulfilling life. You are so much more than your illness. It can be challenging to carry on day to day. People around you may not understand just how much planning it takes to simply function when you are constantly low on energy, or how much effort you put in every single day to show up for yourself and others in spite of the pain. I see you, and I am here for you.

To better support you, I draw on eclectic therapeutic approaches including EMDR,
ACT
, DBT-informed, Narrative Therapy, among others.
Our brain and body can protect us from danger, but when the pain becomes too much for us to handle, we can often feel stuck and unable to move forward. When we are struggling more than we can cope, it is easy to feel isolated, powerless, and hopeless. You don’t have to do it alone. I will hold and provide a safe space for you, and together, we will honour all parts of you and determine your unique path to healing. While healing looks different for everybody, it is my goal to assist you in embracing your true self.

I am here to hold the space with you so we can understand where your life can be enhanced.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
