I specialize in working with youth and younger adults (under 40) and their families with a myriad of challenges including mental health (anxiety, depression, adjustment, stress, difficulty coping, eating disorders, trauma, OCD), addictions (substance use and behavioural) and parenting coaching / support.
Here's a little about me: I am a masters level registered social worker since 2013 and have been in clinical counselling / psychotherapy roles for 14 years. I became a Social Worker because I felt drawn to promoting self-actualization and healing psychological pain. I work collaboratively with clients to focus on what fits your unique needs and strengths.

I use a person-centered approach as my base, and integrate internal family systems, mindfulness, emotion-focused, and somatic techniques.
Anxiety, depression, and relationship issues can sometimes feel insurmountable. I am here to give you hope that we can work together through these issues and move toward healthier functioning. I believe everyone is made up of different parts, and while none of those parts are bad, I want to help you attend to your internal experience which will lead you to understanding, self-compassion, and self-acceptance. You may have a desire to turn away from or shut off the parts of yourself you do not like, but developing a better understanding of those parts and their experiences can be healing.

There will be times when we spend more time processing past events and family history, and times when it makes more sense to focus on creating the life you dream of.
Are you smart, driven, career-focused woman in Ontario who is juggling 85 things at 120% until you crash and scroll mindlessly while also watching Netflix ordering Uber Eats? It looks like you have it all together on the outside, but your mind is racing like a browser with 30 tabs open. Your inner critic is loud, nothing is ever “good enough” and life feels like an endless chore. You wonder if it’s ADHD, depression, burnout... You’ve tried the books, meditation, journaling, podcasts, walks, cleaning up your diet. Your nervous system is in fight-or flight, you know you need to "love yourself", but what does that even actually mean?

Accepting New Clients! Your brain is stuck in overdrive—constant thoughts, rituals, checking, avoiding, or replaying things until it feels “just right.” Whether it’s intrusive thoughts, compulsions, or mental loops you can’t seem to escape, OCD has a way of hijacking your time, energy, and peace of mind. Maybe it’s been diagnosed, maybe you’ve just always felt “a little too stuck” in your head. Either way, you're exhausted from trying to keep things under control. If your brain feels like it’s always working against you, therapy can help shift the dynamic.

FAQ - About Family Therapy
What issues does family therapy help with?
Family therapy can help families navigate the complex dynamics of family life, including communication challenges and recurring conflict between family members. A therapist can help family members identify dysfunctional patterns in communication and develop healthier ways of relating. Family therapy may also be helpful during major life transitions or stressful events that affect the family system, such as grief, divorce, trauma, relocation, or a serious illness. In some cases, family therapy can support families coping with specific mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, alcohol or substance use disorders, and eating disorders. In these situations, therapy can provide education and support to family members, as well as to the individual with the mental health diagnosis.

How do I know if my family needs counselling?
Family therapy may be helpful if a family consistently struggles with conflict or communication in a way that affects daily life or relationships. It can also be beneficial when someone in the family is experiencing significant emotional or behavioural changes, such as a family member becoming aggressive, withdrawing, or struggling to cope after a traumatic event. Additionally, some concerns, such as addiction or eating disorders, may be especially important to address in the context of the family unit.

Who attends family counselling sessions?
Family counselling sessions are often attended by members of the immediate family, such as parents, caregivers, children, or siblings. However, other family members may attend when appropriate, including grandparents, stepparents, stepsiblings, or co-parents. Who attends may depend on the family’s needs, the therapist’s recommendations, and the goals of treatment.

Can family therapy be done online?
Family therapy can often be done online. Virtual sessions may be especially convenient when family members live in different locations, have busy schedules, or live in a province, territory, or rural area where family therapists are less accessible. However, online therapy may not be the best fit for every family. In-person care may be more appropriate when there are safety concerns, severe conflict, limited privacy at home, or when young children have difficulty engaging through a screen.

What therapeutic approaches are used in family counselling?
Family therapy can take different forms, including systemic family therapy (exploring how individual actions affect the family), structural family therapy (uncovering the structure and relationship dynamics of the family unit), and attachment-based family therapy (focusing on how bonds between family members shape relationships). Family therapy may also include psychoeducation, which helps family members learn more about a mental health condition and how to respond to it more effectively.

How much does family therapy cost and is it covered by insurance?
Family therapy sessions, which typically last about an hour, often range from $100 to $200 or more, depending on factors such as location, therapist experience, session length, and practice setting. In general, family therapy may cost more than individual therapy because it involves multiple participants and more complex treatment planning. Coverage for family therapy varies by province or territory and by private insurance plan, if applicable. Family therapy provided by a therapist in private practice is often paid out of pocket, although some plans may reimburse services from eligible providers such as psychologists, registered social workers, psychotherapists, or counsellors, particularly when therapy is related to a diagnosed mental health condition affecting someone in the family. Public coverage is generally not an option for family therapy, unless provided through a community clinic or publicly funded agency.
