Here's a little about me: I am a masters level registered social worker since 2013 and have been in clinical counselling / psychotherapy roles for 14 years. I became a Social Worker because I felt drawn to promoting self-actualization and healing psychological pain. I work collaboratively with clients to focus on what fits your unique needs and strengths.

I specialize in addiction and compulsive behaviours, with a focus on porn addiction and men’s therapy.
If porn use has started to feel compulsive, you are not alone. Maybe you tell yourself it is the last time, then stress, loneliness, boredom, or anxiety hits and you slip back into the same loop. Afterward comes the shame, the secrecy, and the feeling that you are letting yourself or your partner down. It can start to impact confidence, intimacy, and how you see yourself. Therapy can help you slow down, understand what is driving the pattern, and build a way forward that feels steady and real.

My specialties include trauma, addiction, domestic and (childhood) sexual violence, grief, depression, sexuality, and relationship issues.
My approach to psychotherapy is deeply rooted in feminist and structural analyses that contextualize individual "problems" in our social environments. My therapeutic orientation is comprised of an eclectic mix of theoretical models that guide my work, including emotion focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and somatic therapy. While I don't practice exclusively from one perspective, I believe that it is my role to be constantly assessing whether or not the work we are doing appears to be helping you to achieve your therapeutic goals. I offer psychological services under the supervision of Dr. Leigh Karos, C. Psych.

For 16 years I've supported mental health/ADHD from different lenses as a teacher in the remote Arctic, family and couples therapist, addictions counsellor, as well as supervising an addiction counselling team.
In my various roles as husband, father, friend, and later-in-life diagnosed "ADHD'er", I understand the difficulties we all encounter in our lives and most intimate circle. I enjoy engaging with adults (18+) who seek change and are motivated to explore their ADHD-type brain. I welcome clients who are formally diagnosed, or self diagnosed! My approach to ADHD treatment is suited to those who want solution-focused, goal-oriented work; and are open to learning and being curious about their ADHD experience with me. As a certified EFT couples therapist, I also welcome neurodiverse/typical couples who seek connection and change.

I have over 8 years of experience in the counselling field and work with adults navigating substance use and gambling addictions, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and relationship issues.
Navigating life isn’t always easy, especially when you’re carrying the weight of anxiety, strong emotions, or patterns that feel hard to break. Even when we’re doing our best, it can feel overwhelming to manage everything on our own. You might find yourself wanting more calm, more clarity, or a sense of being back in control of your own life. Having a supportive, non-judgmental space to talk things through can make a meaningful difference. In our work together, you’re the expert on your life, and my role is to walk alongside you as we explore what you need, what’s getting in the way, and what’s possible moving forward.

What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
