Journeying towards wellness takes more work than most of us imagine! Without support it can feel slow and discouraging! If you are on this journey, then you may want someone to walk alongside to help you move forward. Once you have this support, then it's time to start preparing for the journey! This could include remembering what's important to you, and working through the challenges that make the path forward difficult. You might even need to equip yourself with new skills and discover new paths towards a goal.

I work with both the parents and the children to understand and address the roots of the problem, and interpret the behaviour with insight into the underlying emotions, in order to impact lasting change
Through the activity of play I help children to make sense of difficult life experiences (e.g. divorce, death of a loved one) and navigate the big feelings (e.g. anxiety, anger, sadness) that are often at the root of challenging behaviour. I support children and their caregivers become more able to cope with how they are feeling, develop insight, emotional intelligence and confidence.

You may look like you’re managing, but inside you’re in pain, overwhelmed, or carrying stress that no one else can see. Many of my clients reach out when they’ve tried to cope on their own and finally realize they shouldn’t have to. If this sounds familiar, I want you to know that healing is not only possible it is predictable when the right support is in place. A key part of my work is helping clients experience measurable progress. Many of my client begin therapy with weekly or biweekly sessions to build stability. As you learn strategies, develop insight, and feel more in control , sessions spread out moving to as needed.

Parenting isn’t easy and kids and teens don’t come with a handbook.
In addition to working with parents, I also have a passion for supporting women who are experiencing the emotional impact of pregnancy, PPMD, PDD and perimenopause/menopause. Symptoms associated with these conditions can feel debilitating, and counselling can be helpful in relieving symptoms, restoring well being and helping you to feel like yourself again

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
