I often use a variety of therapy approaches, incorporating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Music Therapy, and Mentalization-Based Therapy into our work.
Feeling like you can’t keep living this way, but don’t know how to change? If that feels familiar, for you or your child, you’re not alone, and I’ve been there too. Therapy became a safe space for me, and now I work to offer that same space for my clients. I work with kids, teens, and adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or constantly hard on themselves. For kids and teens, this might look like big emotions, shutdowns, school struggles, or difficulty with focus and follow-through. For adults, it can show up as burnout, procrastination, overthinking, or feeling like you’re always falling behind, even when you’re trying your best.

I work with people across all stages of life — children, teens, adults, and older adults and families. Many of my clients share a common thread: they are deeply self-aware, they genuinely want to change, and they just need a space where they feel safe enough to do that work. Some have never tried therapy before and aren't sure what to expect. Others have had experiences in the past that didn't quite fit. Either way, they arrive looking for something real — not just coping strategies, but actual understanding.

I hold a deep belief in the inherent goodness of every person and the presence of hope in every circumstance. As a relational therapist, I recognize the powerful influence that relationships have on our overall well-being; I have supported individuals, couples, and families alike in their journeys toward healing, growth, and deeper connection. I do not view clients as broken or in need of being “fixed,” but rather as whole and unique individuals shaped by their stories, relationships, and lived contexts. I focus on strengths and resilience, and I remain grounded in hope even in moments when hope may feel out of reach.

No matter who we are, or how far we’ve traveled in this world, there are times when we all feel stuck. During these difficult stretches, we may feel disconnected from the world around us, and from ourselves. This can lead to a sense that we are undeserving of relief or that meaningful change is out of reach. And yet, somehow we find a way to persevere, and we take the brave step of seeking out care and understanding.

Music Therapy Counsellors
How does music therapy work?
A music therapist will begin by assessing the client’s specific needs and getting a sense of their musical ability and interests. Musical training is not required, and clients of all ages can benefit from this type of therapy. The therapist will then make a plan for how to achieve the client’s therapeutic goal(s) using a range of receptive (e.g., listening to a song) and active (e.g., drumming in a group) music therapy techniques.

What are some common music therapy techniques?
Music therapy usually involves listening to music (either live or recorded). Music therapy clients may also make music on popular instruments, such as the piano, guitar, and hand drum, or sing. Sometimes music therapy can include guided imagery. A music therapist may ask clients to improvise on the spot or even compose their own songs. Dancing or moving to music can be an effective intervention to help clients feel more fully grounded in their bodies and remain in the present moment.

How does music therapy help with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)?
Music therapy can be a valuable creative outlet for clients with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who have trouble putting their painful feelings into words. Listening to music can be relaxing while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. In addition to its mood-boosting effects, music therapy can help clients build resilience and overcome PTSD symptoms that may interfere with their daily lives.

How long does music therapy take?
Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes. They can be scheduled in advance (for example, once a week) or can be done on an as-needed basis. Some clients will only require a handful of music therapy sessions to achieve their goals, while others may need months or longer, depending on their specific concern.
