Individual Counselling is a process through which I meet with clients one-on-one in a safe, caring, and confidential environment. We work collaboratively to explore their feelings, beliefs, values and behaviors. My clients seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons including coping with the challenges of perimenopause/menopause, working through grief and loss issues, dealing with depression or anxiety, or simply desiring personal growth and greater self-knowledge. I may meet with a client for as few as five or six sessions or as long as several years, depending on the their unique needs and personal goals for therapy.

I enjoy working with women, trans and non-binary people who have had long-term mental health struggles and a history of trauma. The people I see are often struggling with understanding the impact of childhood wounds, stressful relationships involving difficulty with intimacy or autonomy, coping with the after-effects of sexual violence and/or feeling stuck in emotions such as shame and loneliness. These people may be trying to reconcile their values and desired way of being in the world with intense reactions that seem to come out of the blue. I also do work regarding gender, sexuality and neurodiversity.

ACCEPTING NEW IN-PERSON OR VIRTUAL THERAPY CLIENTS. I believe in honouring the person in front of me, making room for you to tell your story, and working collaboratively towards your goals. I work with couples, families, and individuals to manage and transform: conflict in relationships, strong emotions, life changes, cultural pressures, identity stressors, depression, anxiety, and more. Much of my work is relational (i.e. with couples, families or groups). I value and reflect on the unique perspectives and needs of every person who is courageously reaching out for therapy. Often taking the first step is the hardest. I offer a private and safe space to explore your needs and struggles. Often we lose sight of our greatest strengths in everyday life. I offer acceptance base therapy and then I help you work towards change. Most of my experience has been with young adults. I truly enjoy starting an internal journey with you. Different parts of you come alive in the therapy room. When you know yourself and your different parts it is much easier to cope with life's difficulties.

Are you feeling stuck in life? Do you struggle to find a sense of calm and clarity amid racing thoughts? Many of us are unaware that our subconscious mind plays a significant role in shaping our thoughts and behaviors. However, with mindfulness and self-inquiry, we can learn to observe and understand the programming of our subconscious minds. By doing so, we can gain insight into limiting beliefs and behaviors that may be holding us back and work to rewrite them.

Within each of us lies the vision and hope for the life we want to live. Yet, we can feel overwhelmed by inner or outer challenges, fears, negative beliefs, low self-esteem, anxiety or depression. In many years of practice, I have seen the resilience of the human spirit. As a Spiritual Psychotherapist, I work with traditional approaches, as well as those rooted in Transpersonal Psychology, Archetypal Psychology and Shamanism which recognize the power and strength inherent within to facilitate change. My aim is to act as guide as clients address past pain and present circumstances that limit the ability to live a life in full bloom.

Currently accepting new clients! My style and approach to therapy are influenced by a holistic understanding that we are a composite of our histories and experiences, the intersections of our identities, and socio-cultural understandings and systems. I am also a firm believer that therapy is a collaborative process of growth and discovery between the client and therapist, and while you are the true catalyst for change, it is an honour to be by your side throughout the journey.

Multicultural Counsellors

What type of therapy is multicultural therapy?

Multicultural therapy is not tied to any specific therapy; rather, it is an overarching approach to therapy that aims to acknowledge and address the influence that factors like race, gender identity, and cultural background can have on someone’s life. Multicultural approaches can be applied to CBT, psychodynamic therapy, and others, and can be practiced with individuals, couples, families, or groups.

What can I expect from multicultural therapy?

Multicultural counselling should be tailored to the client’s unique identity and cultural needs. Such approaches often prioritise the building of trust so that the client feels comfortable exploring various aspects of their identity and any challenges caused by mismatches between their identity and the dominant culture. Beyond that, the format and timeline of therapy will be heavily influenced by the therapist’s preferred therapy approach and the specific problems for which the client sought therapy.

Can multicultural therapy help treat trauma?

Yes. Cultural factors such as racial background, gender identity and or sexuality, and immigration or refugee status can influence both whether someone experiences trauma and how they cope afterward. Multicultural approaches to trauma-informed care will be aware of these influences, helping the client recognise how their response to trauma may be shaped by their cultural background and identify coping mechanisms that take their identity into account.

What are the benefits of seeing a multicultural therapist?

Members of minority groups who seek therapy are sometimes frustrated by providers who don’t understand their cultural background or dismiss the ways in which race, gender, or other facets of their identity influence their lived experience. Seeing a multicultural therapist can help these clients feel seen, understood, and able to develop solutions to life challenges that take their upbringing, beliefs, and past experiences into account.
