Hi, I'm Matt. Sometimes we don’t know how to get to where we want. Sometimes we think we know, but just can’t get started. It can all feel like too much and we can become overwhelmed. At these times, what we need is a little help and support. Counselling can be that. No matter what your goals are, we can work towards them together. Counselling can be a way to rediscover your strengths and re-frame your past. It is a place to get curious about why you are where you are, and explore what might be holding you back. I can help you utilize your knowledge and experience to move positively into the future.

My clients usually come to therapy for relief from their mental health symptoms. They are often feeling overwhelmed, have been thinking about making changes for a long time and are feeling stuck in how to move forward. Together we look at the issues, explore how it is impacting their lives, and come up goals and a treatment plan. This treatment plan includes learning more about your mental health, gaining new skills and strategies that you will carry with you long after therapy ends, and finally practicing a language of self-compassion to replace unhelpful/critical thinking.

Throughout our lives we face many challenges; at times these can exceed our ability to problem solve and cope, even with the assistance of family and friends. At these times the professional assistance of a psychologist can be immensely helpful. I am a licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience. I am qualified to assess, diagnose and treat any mental health disorder. I am also a health/rehabilitation psychologist, helping clients address the stress and depression associated with either chronic/acute illnesses, infertility and medical treatment. For complete information on my practice please go to www.drannemchugh.com

My approach to psychotherapy is founded on the belief that all people carry inherent worth and value. I take a holistic view of clients, people are multidimensional, and every aspect, biological, psychological, social, and spiritual, play a role in subjective well-being. I rely upon the perspective that clients are the experts of their lives, which is invaluable in tailoring my approach specific to you. I believe strongly that no one has a monopoly on normality. The nuanced approach I take for every client is rooted in my belief that every person is unique and deserves an approach tailored specifically to them.

If you’re great at holding it together on the outside, but inside it’s overthinking, self doubt, people pleasing, and anxiety or depression - you're in the right place. I help clients untangle those patterns, understand where they came from, and learn new ways to move through the world. My style is warm, collaborative, and rooted in trauma-informed, attachment-focused care. We’ll go at your pace with practical tools, honest conversations, and a space where you don’t have to perform to be understood.

Life is messy and not always easy to navigate. It is easy to beat ourselves up, focus on all of the "shoulda-woulda-coulda's", but it is difficult to see the frame when you are part of the picture. Kindsight Counselling is about finding a soft place to land within the storm and learning how to be gentle with yourself and thrive in the face of adversity. My passion for understanding your personal experiences allows me to provide compassionate and empathic support, while helping you overcome barriers and live your life with courage and joy.

Hey there! I’m Emily (she/her; I’m a Newfie at heart). Opening up about personal struggles isn’t easy, which is why I prioritize you having a space where you feel comfortable being yourself — with no judgment, just understanding. Whether you’re dealing with addiction, an eating disorder, anxiety, or navigating life’s challenges, I want therapy to be somewhere you feel safe and supported. It can be intimidating to start therapy, so I work hard to create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where you can open up at your own pace. I believe we all deserve to be heard and that it’s my job to help you take charge of your healing journey.

Weekend & evening openings. Hi, I am Jessica. I understand how it feels to be more anxious despite your best attempts to maintain a positive outlook. High standards, expectations from others and the drive to please can leave you feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and burnt out. You may also be struggling with overwhelm, imposter syndrome, and the steady background of anxiety. Sound familiar? I support both men & women, including First Responders, business owners, therapists, caregivers, parents and those living with ADHD. I also have a special interest in supporting women through pregnancy loss, infertility, burnout, & post-partum.

You might be feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or unsure of how to move forward. Maybe you’re navigating anxiety, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or the lingering impact of past experiences. You may find yourself constantly caring for others while putting your own needs last. You want clarity, relief, and a sense of being grounded, but it’s hard to get there on your own. You're looking for a space where you can be real, unpack what’s going on, and start to feel like yourself again.

Finding one's self can be difficult to pin down whether you're a person of colour experiencing conflicting values culturally, an individual exploring your sexual identity, unable to balance work/school with life, or otherwise. Coupled that with the stresses of everyday life and things tend to feel overwhelming. You may feel like it's hard to organize your thoughts and feelings or you may even feel like you have nowhere to express yourself.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
