Today is a new day! Having someone to listen without judgment is a tremendous gift. It can remove the loneliness and despair that can happen when life can be too much to bear. Perhaps you've had therapy before but something's still missing. You've done everything you can think of or that your previous therapist told you. You are dedicated to your personal growth. You engage in regular practices and are committed to do whatever it takes to be your best self. Despite some real progress, the deeper relief you've been looking for hasn't occurred just yet. Let's go BEYOND traditional talk therapy to take you to the next

You may appear successful on the outside, capable, accomplished, and relied upon by others, yet something inside feels disconnected. Perhaps you've achieved many of your goals, but fulfillment still feels out of reach. You may find yourself repeating patterns that affect your relationships, sense of purpose, or connection to yourself. Beneath the surface, you may be carrying stress, self-doubt, loneliness, or responsibilities few people truly see. Deep down, you know something needs to change. You're seeking greater self-understanding, meaningful relationships, and a life that feels authentic and aligned.

I have over 50 years experience working with people. I especially enjoy working with men who are wanting to get to know themselves better, men for whom feelings and an internal life are somewhat a mystery. These unknowns often contribute to male depression, anger, anxiety or affairs. They also contribute to marital conflicts and problems in communication. It is difficult to communicate what you don't know but what you don't know does influence many aspects of a relationship. I often work with women who are struggling with these men and find ways to help them engage him in therapy with them. I also see individual women.

You may be juggling responsibilities (career, parenting, relationships, ...) while quietly carrying stress, self-doubt, or emotional weight beneath the surface. You might feel the pressure to keep it all together, but inside you feel tired, stuck, alone, disconnected, or unsure what’s next. You want to feel more steady and clear-headed, to handle conflict better, and to lead or parent with more confidence and calm. You’re ready for honest support and a space to breathe, reflect, and reconnect with yourself.

Have you ever found yourself wondering, “How did I get here?” Maybe life took a turn you didn’t expect, and now you’re trying to make sense of it all. You’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out alone either. Before I stepped into being a therapist, my life took many unexpected turns, from professional athlete, to pastor, to public speaker. My world used to revolve around performance, pressure, and pushing through. I understand what it’s like to live under high expectations, your own or other people’s. I know how it feels to be stuck in a version of yourself that no longer fits.

Sometimes couples find themselves caught in the same painful cycle. One person feels hurt or disconnected and reaches for their partner, while the other feels overwhelmed or unsure what to do and pulls away. The more one pursues, the more the other withdraws—and both can end up feeling frustrated, discouraged, and misunderstood. You may be arguing about the same things, struggling to communicate, feeling emotionally distant, or wondering what happened to the connection you once had. You may care deeply about each other and still feel stuck in patterns that seem to take over when emotions run high.

You: "I am READY to feel better." Me: "Right on. I've got the tools. Let's get to work." This whole therapy business may seem a little weird to you, but you have been feeling a deep lack of connection to the things that really matter to you and you don't want to keep feeling this way. You've had some struggles earlier in your life, or more recently, that have impacted how you relate to others and how you related to the world in general, and you're not liking how this restriction, this disconnect feels. You've wanted to be a better coworker, partner, or father, and you're feeling really ready to invest the time to make it happen.

My areas of specialty include PTSD, trauma, depression, anxiety, self-worth, men's issues, and spirituality.
Trauma, depression, and other mental health issues can often cause individuals to become "stuck" leading to feelings of resignation or hopelessness. It can often feel like the individual is at the bottom of a well which keeps getting deeper, with the light out feeling further and further out of reach. It can lead individuals to believe that there is no path forwards, or that any path forward is one devoid of meaning or fulfillment.

I'm a registered therapist providing secure virtual counselling for adults across Ontario. I work with people navigating anxiety, depression, chronic stress, and the everyday pressures that come with relationships, careers, and family life. Many of the men I work with have spent years taking care of everyone else before finally deciding it's time to take care of themselves. Therapy isn't about becoming someone different. It's about helping you reconnect with who you are underneath all the pressure.

Many of the people I work with—especially men in their 20s to 40s—have spent years managing on their own, only to find something no longer works. They may feel stuck, disconnected, reactive in relationships, weighed down by shame, or uncertain about who they are beneath the roles they perform. I help people understand the deeper patterns driving their struggles and work toward meaningful, lasting change.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
