men's issues
, depression, sexual addiction, infidelity, trauma and PTSD, life transitions, and self-esteem.
Men that come to see me usually stuck, feeling paralyzed, stressed, anxious, depressed or directionless. You may question whether you are a good son, father, or partner. Perhaps you are struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction, grief, trauma, or just feeling disconnected from yourself and with others. Reaching out to a qualified therapist means taking the "first step". Many men try to solve their challenges on their own, with limited or short-term success. It doesn't have to be this way, and my role is to help you see things in different ways and from a different perspective. You are not alone - call, email, or visit our site.

My areas of specialty include PTSD, trauma, depression, anxiety, self-worth,
men's issues
, and spirituality.
Trauma, depression, and other mental health issues can often cause individuals to become "stuck" leading to feelings of resignation or hopelessness. It can often feel like the individual is at the bottom of a well which keeps getting deeper, with the light out feeling further and further out of reach. It can lead individuals to believe that there is no path forwards, or that any path forward is one devoid of meaning or fulfillment.

, trauma, suicidal thoughts, court mandated counselling, other issues which make life difficult to manage.
My main role as your counsellor is to support you through difficult times and challenges, while helping you achieve optimal psychological and emotional health and well being. As your “co-pilot” on this journey, I bring to the “cockpit”: clinical training and experience with a broad range of issues and treatment approaches. I am comfortable with people of all cultures, orientations and spiritual and/or religious backgrounds. Certified by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, I provide counselling and therapy using an integrative approach, weaving together various methods to suit your unique needs. Men's mental health is a silent crisis. Men are less likely to seek mental health support, and social norms often actively encourage men to disregard signs of distress, yet this year 1 in every 10 Canadian men will experience clinical depression or anxiety, 3 in 10 men over 30 years old will experience sexual dysfunction and 6 in 10 men will have experienced trauma over their lifetime. Effective psychological treatment, delivered by a qualified professional in a secure, confidential and supportive format, can help.

You: "I am READY to feel better." Me: "Right on. I've got the tools. Let's get to work." This whole therapy business may seem a little weird to you, but you have been feeling a deep lack of connection to the things that really matter to you and you don't want to keep feeling this way. You've had some struggles earlier in your life, or more recently, that have impacted how you relate to others and how you related to the world in general, and you're not liking how this restriction, this disconnect feels. You've wanted to be a better coworker, partner, or father, and you're feeling really ready to invest the time to make it happen.

Our work together will be based on you being heard. Your trust in me, your confidence in the process, and your insight into your life are the foundation of my practice. Regardless of my training and expertise, I believe that you are the expert of your own life. It will not be my role to put your experience into a box to be neatly categorized and labelled. You are a dynamic presence unlike anyone else and, just like everyone else, you deserve the respect and dignity of having your presence acknowledged.

I recognize that life is complex, and so are the issues we live with. Whether it be a significant change, like losing a loved one, or tension within a meaningful relationship, it can feel overwhelming and hopeless trying to find our way through these challenges. I believe that we have the solutions to solve our problems within us and, at times, this requires us to reach out for support to uncover the answers to overcome these problems. From there, we seek to understand how we can learn from these hard times to strengthen ourselves and our relationships and find meaning from our experiences.

Do you find yourself struggling with feelings of inadequacy? No matter what you do, this feeling, and the self-criticisms that come with it feel impossible to shake? Maybe you find yourself worrying about the future, doubting your capability to cope with whatever life is about to throw at you next. Perhaps you can even see repetitive behaviours that keep you stuck, but you can't find a way to change these ingrained habits. The degree to which these things effect everyone lies on a continuum. Some struggle with low self-esteem, others depression and anxiety, and trauma can lead to severe changes in many of these areas.

I am happy to work with an extensive range of clients and organize my practice around providing Client-Centred Therapy grounded in empirically-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Additionally, I have lived experience as a first responder and am passionate about addressing the unique challenges associated with fulfilling such roles. In my experience working with people over the last 10 years, I've found that often their challenges are best addressed first and foremost by being heard; this act of listening is a gift that unlocks the resources hidden within.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
