I have over a decade of experience supporting families and individuals in the Waterloo Region in their personal and collective transformation.
I use a blended therapeutic perspective because I find that problems are complex and need to be approached from different angles. I am also experienced supporting people who are experiencing a variety of mental health challenges ranging from simple to complex. Neurodivergent needs also require modifying therapeutic approaches to suit your individuality.

Hey there! I’m Emily (she/her; I’m a Newfie at heart).
Opening up about personal struggles isn’t easy, which is why I prioritize you having a space where you feel comfortable being yourself — with no judgment, just understanding. Whether you’re dealing with addiction, an eating disorder, anxiety, or navigating life’s challenges, I want therapy to be somewhere you feel safe and supported.
It can be intimidating to start therapy, so I work hard to create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where you can open up at your own pace. I believe we all deserve to be heard and that it’s my job to help you take charge of your healing journey.

I integrate NARM, Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to support healing from relational trauma, chronic stress, perfectionism, negative self-perception, and harsh self-judgment.
I work with adults with long-standing relational patterns that cause shame, low self esteem, and feelings of disconnection. Many of my clients feel stuck in negative self perception, seeking external validation, or repeating painful relationship dynamics, even though they are outwardly high-functioning and self-aware. I support clients in building emotional capacity and developing greater self-confidence, self-authority and self-trust. Throughout our work, you will gradually build the capacity to be with yourself rather than avoiding, distracting, or relying on others’ approval to feel okay.

For the past 10 years, the most meaningful work I have done has been with adolescents and their families.
I believe people are innately resilient, able to withstand adversity, bounce back from life challenges, and flourish. Being resilient does not mean you will never feel stressed, emotionally overwhelmed or suffer. Being resilient means having the courage to climb the mountain, embracing the journey of vulnerability and having the strength to heal. On the other side of this experience is self-awareness, meaningful connections with others, purpose and improved emotional and physical health.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
