Using EFT with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, repeated unproductive patterns and relationships, I help you find emotional balance with yourself and important others, repair disconnection, take risks and deepen your bonds with your partner and your
family
.
I work with individuals, couples and families through an adult attachment lens, trained and Certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy. Because we are so important to each other and feeling safely, emotionally connected is our survival as humans, we tend to use strategies we learned in our earliest relationships with our caregivers. We all fear the universal anxiety of abandonment or rejection and are wired to monitor our relationships for security. The ways we cope with our vulnerability when these fears get triggered can push us into negative patterns with ourselves and others. Learn to trust our needs and send clear signals.

I use internal
family
systems for Trauma work and mindfulness techniques to help you regulate emotions and increase distress tolerance.
Often taking the first step is the hardest. I offer a private and safe space to explore your needs and struggles. Often we lose sight of our greatest strengths in everyday life. I offer acceptance base therapy and then I help you work towards change. Most of my experience has been with young adults. I truly enjoy starting an internal journey with you. Different parts of you come alive in the therapy room. When you know yourself and your different parts it is much easier to cope with life's difficulties.

Life is beautiful, in part because of its challenges which can help us to grow and learn more about ourselves. There are times when we can feel overwhelmed and experience increased stress, anxiety, low mood or various other things that have us feeling less like ourselves. Simply put, those are all signs that you have done the best that you can with the skills and supports that you have to navigate this part of your life. My hope in this role is to support each individual to realign with their strengths and the development of the skills needed to thrive during these seasons.

Each one of us has a need to be deeply heard. To be listened to in a space that is empathic, accepting and without judgment can be a life-changing experience. As a therapist, compassion and acceptance are foundational values for my work. You come with your own unique life story, influenced by your
family
of origin, adult relationships and experiences. By reflection and exploration, I help facilitate a therapeutic space which allows you to explore the deeper parts of your self and discover new possibilities. I believe each person has the innate wisdom to discover how they can flourish and thrive again.

I work with individuals, families and couples struggling with trauma, relationship struggles, tough
family
dynamics and parenting. When you have experienced adverse events in your childhood or recent trauma you may have difficulties regulating your mood, feeling joy, advocating for yourself, and may often feel unworthy or undeserving of positive things. Life events can leave us worried about being both physically and socially safe, as well as lacking a sense of belonging. Anxiety is a common feeling, leading to low mood, anger, intrusive thoughts, failed or chaotic relationships. Living this way can lead to burnout.

Throughout this I have supported youth in addressing
family
conflict, establishing boundaries, trauma, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, self-injurious behaviours, and through life-changing events.
I believe people are innately resilient, able to withstand adversity, bounce back from life challenges, and flourish. Being resilient does not mean you will never feel stressed, emotionally overwhelmed or suffer. Being resilient means having the courage to climb the mountain, embracing the journey of vulnerability and having the strength to heal. On the other side of this experience is self-awareness, meaningful connections with others, purpose and improved emotional and physical health.

Outside of work, my
family
is a large part of my life.
Broken relationships can mend. You CAN have healthy, fulfilling and deep connections. Relationships can breakdown, be it a slow drifting apart due to busy schedules, parenting, balancing work and life, or with choices that have been made that have hurt deeply. What was once a source of happiness and pleasure may become the very source of your deepest pain. The person who was once your most trusted ally and friend, now seems more like a stranger. How does one work through this and regain connection? Couples counselling can help! A therapist helps couples hear each other and be understood in a safe environment.

My therapy sessions take these truths to heart by focusing on your
family
, either the whole group or individual members of it.
You are a devoted parent who longs to feel close to your child but the teenage years are giving you a run for your money. You’re tired of walking on eggshells, tired of the fights and the silences and too tired to take care of yourself. You need someone to listen and help you to understand your teen’s behaviour. You want to connect with your child and feel more confident as a parent so you can enjoy one another again and support them on their journey to adulthood.

I am a registered social worker, accredited
family
mediator, and professional coach located in Kitchener, Ontario.
I understand and admire the courage it takes to reach out for support and am committed to respecting your time, effort, and trust. Our work together will be based upon transformational approaches that get to the root of the symptoms and concerns you are experiencing so that lasting change becomes possible. I believe our symptoms make perfect sense when they are better understood and, at one time, they served a helpful and protective purpose. Together, we will explore the unconscious learnings and narratives that are holding you back and find the meaningful growth you are looking for.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
