Hi, my name is Hannah. I use she/her and they/them pronouns. I believe every client is different and deserves their own unique therapy experience. Before we begin our work together, we will create a collaborative treatment plan, informed by your goals for therapy. My approach is gentle, with a hint of compassionate confrontation. I embrace an anti-oppressive framework, with intentional attunement to the intersections of your identity (e.g. gender, race, age, sexual orientation, etc.). Knowing how difficult therapy can be, I also try to bring humour into my sessions as much as possible.

You are exhausted! You know that you could feel more fulfilled but you're not sure what to do next. You worry all the time, your energy is depleted, managing daily tasks feel impossible and you aren't feeling too great about yourself. You have a sense that your life should be different than this, that you should have a more meaningful purpose. Maybe you even know what that purpose is- but you're scared. Scared of being misunderstood, humiliated, rejected. Scared of failing. I know what that feels like. And if you're willing, I can help guide you through it.

If you’re great at holding it together on the outside, but inside it’s overthinking, self doubt, people pleasing, and anxiety or depression - you're in the right place. I help clients untangle those patterns, understand where they came from, and learn new ways to move through the world. My style is warm, collaborative, and rooted in trauma-informed, attachment-focused care. We’ll go at your pace with practical tools, honest conversations, and a space where you don’t have to perform to be understood.

I'm Tamara, a clinical social worker (MSW) and Associate Therapist. What's your story? Have you encountered unkind life events or traumatic experiences that seem to live on today? These unwelcome plot twists can disturb our sleep, mood, beliefs, reactions, eating patterns, etc. When life stressors appear to outweigh the treasures, therapy can be a great way to start a new chapter. I'm an empathetic listener who aims to use evidence-based therapeutic tools with tailored approaches to suit each clients' needs. There is strength inside everyone to change their own narrative, and I would love to support you in that journey.

Change is hard and becoming a parent is perhaps one of the most transformative life transitions of all. Each stage we go through from conception to empty nesting comes with its joys and challenges. I have experience walking alongside people as they navigate change in their lives. It is my intention to support you so you feel safe to open up and explore yourself. As I’ve learned, parenting is tough and it is common to feel lost. There is such value in creating connection with others, as well as ourselves. Change may also be embracing opportunities to focus on one's well-being and goals, in a way that brings balance.

In her book The Gifts of Imperfection, Bréné Brown says that “owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do”. It is my privilege as a Psychotherapist to provide space and support as individuals dive into the stories of their lives and do the hard work of healing. Certified in EMDR, and other types of evidence-based trauma therapies, I’m grateful to be able to provide an opportunity for individuals to release the emotional, mental, and physical blocks caused by trauma and other difficult life circumstances.

You want to feel safe in your own mind and body again. You want to stop reacting from survival mode and start living with a sense of ease and control. You need a therapist who understands how trauma affects the nervous system, relationships, and self-worth. It’s about helping you process what’s happened, release what’s no longer serving you and reconnect with who you were always meant to be. I specialize in trauma recovery, supporting teenagers and adults as they make sense of their experiences, reconnect with themselves, and move toward a life that feels whole and meaningful.

Individuals struggling with mental health want to feel heard, understood and authentically seen. When you are struggling with mental health at times it can feel like no one really sees you. I hope to be able to change that and that's where I begin: by creating a space where your experience truly matters. I draw from evidence based approaches like CBT, ACT and mindfulness, but I believe therapy should not feel like a formula. Each person is different, so I tailor what I use to fit who you are - not the other way around.

I provide individual therapy services for adults and youth, aged 16+. The people I serve are often struggling with low mood and/or anxiety, and thought processes that may be overly negative, rigid, or limiting. Clients who access my services are typically seeking support to better manage their day-to-day roles, responsibilities and close relationships. Stress, overwhelm, anger, sadness and feelings of disconnection from self and the world are common experiences my clients might be dealing with. And sometimes, folks are simply looking for an objective listener - you do not need to be in extreme distress for therapy to be beneficial.

Would you like to learn skills that will help you process anxiety, depression, or trauma? Do you feel overwhelmed or desire more structure in your life? Do you often feel lonely or stuck inside your head? It’s normal to feel overwhelmed when life moves so quickly, which is why it can be helpful to have support with slowing things down and formulating a plan. Improving your mental health and well-being can be as simple as developing a daily routine that reduces stress and increases energy. It can also include processing difficult experiences, learning skills to cope with life challenges, or simply having someone to talk to.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Counsellors

How does cognitive processing therapy work?

A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?

Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioural therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?

CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?

A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
