I understand the unique challenges of living with chronic illness, and the stressors associated with living within the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
You're feeling overwhelmed or you're struggling to cope with the day-to-day challenges of chronic illness. You often push through - doing everything you can for work, relationships and responsibilities leaving you exhausted with no energy for yourself. You've struggled to find a therapist that gets it - someone with lived experiences of your struggles with chronic conditions or the 2SLGBTQ+ community. If this sounds like you, I'm glad you're here. Together, we can work to help you build coping skills, identify values, improve your emotional well-being and get you back to feeling like you again.

As a single mother with a chronic illness, I understand firsthand the emotional challenges of navigating a world that doesn’t always feel as though it were designed for me.
I work with individuals and couples, providing a supportive space for both personal growth and relational healing. Together, we will delve into your attachment patterns and examine the different aspects of yourself that might be contributing to your worries, anxiety, mood, or communication roadblocks. Often, the major challenges in life or the emotional roller coasters we experience, stem from our daily thoughts and behaviors that we aren’t effectively managing. By untangling the roots of your thought patterns, I will help you plant cognitive seeds that are more self-empowering.

I also offer an intervention called Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) and I am trained in Level 1, 2 & 3 Brainspotting which helps people access, process, and overcome trauma, negative emotions, and pain.
Are you feeling overwhelmed? Do your thoughts keep racing from one thing to another? Do you find you are excellent at taking care of everyone else but keep neglecting yourself? I would like to help. I am passionate about helping people to move past the "shoulds" and move towards creating the kind of life they want to live. Most of the time when we are distressed we are worrying either too much about the past or the future, or are overly preoccupied by what we imagine other people are thinking about us.

Throughout my professional experience as a clinician, I have had the privilege and honor to help thousands of people like yourself with a wide range of issues like depression, anxiety, BPD, addiction, grief, parenting, chronic illness.
Being anxious, sad, overwhelmed or having no hope can have a negative impact on your physical and mental health. Seeking help might not be easy; and opening up and revealing yourself in therapy can be intimidating. This is why most people who suffer mentally and emotionally, do not seek help, often being forced to cope in unhealthy ways to seek temporary relief. But you are here because you are seeking help, congratulations for taking your first step towards healing!

This could include remembering what's important to you, and working through the challenges that make the path forward difficult. You might even need to equip yourself with new skills and discover new paths towards a goal.

Chronic Pain Counsellors

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophising, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
