Throughout my professional experience as a clinician, I have had the privilege and honor to help thousands of people like yourself with a wide range of issues like depression,
anxiety
, BPD, addiction, grief, parenting, chronic illness.
Being anxious, sad, overwhelmed or having no hope can have a negative impact on your physical and mental health. Seeking help might not be easy; and opening up and revealing yourself in therapy can be intimidating. This is why most people who suffer mentally and emotionally, do not seek help, often being forced to cope in unhealthy ways to seek temporary relief. But you are here because you are seeking help, congratulations for taking your first step towards healing!

As a Registered Psychotherapist and Canadian Certified Counsellor, I offer services for clients experiencing symptoms of depression,
anxiety
, trauma and PTSD, relationship challenges, grief, and more.
People come to therapy with the hope of enhancing their life story in a meaningful way, yet many find themselves held back from realizing this hope due to painful emotions, relationship problems, and trauma. Psychotherapy can be the chapter in a person’s life where stuck circumstances finally start to change. Psychotherapy can be the chapter where a person grieves their losses, confronts their deepest
fears
, heals deep-seated wounds, and finds within themselves the courage and strength to go forward with greater confidence, joy, and peace.

I work with individuals, couples, and families on relationship and intimacy issues, stress,
anxiety
, depression, self-worth, grief and life transitions.
Hi! I'm Gillian (she/her) and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I have studied mental health across the lifespan and have over 15 years of experience working in healthcare. I believe that at the heart of being human is the desire for connection with others and our world. But sometimes it can feel like we are stuck and disconnected. As a therapist, I set out to build strong connections with my clients, making them feel seen, heard and cared for. Together we set goals and make a treatment plan, taking into account each individual’s unique experiences, culture, and beliefs.

Do you find yourself struggling with feelings of inadequacy? No matter what you do, this feeling, and the self-criticisms that come with it feel impossible to shake? Maybe you find yourself worrying about the future, doubting your capability to cope with whatever life is about to throw at you next. Perhaps you can even see repetitive behaviours that keep you stuck, but you can't find a way to change these ingrained habits. The degree to which these things effect everyone lies on a continuum. Some struggle with low self-esteem, others depression and
anxiety
, and trauma can lead to severe changes in many of these areas.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
