I believe that each person has their own set of strengths and should be treated as a whole person - not a problem to solve. I see therapy as a collaboration where you and I can work towards the version of yourself you want to be. Sometimes this process can feel overwhelming and daunting so I strive to offer a welcoming and non-judgemental environment where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and values - and grow as a person. I have more than five years experience supporting people with substance use and mental health concerns. Sometimes we can feel trapped by our past, but there is always a way to move forward.

If you are the one friends and family lean on, if you grew up between cultures or faith traditions, if you are a new parent or rebuilding after a breakup, you deserve a space to be seen and heard. Perhaps you try to feel grateful for the beautiful things you have in your life, but the guilt keeps stacking up. Your goals may include creating clearer boundaries, having healthier relationships, and living a life that feels calmer and more in your control. Therapy offers you a pause where all your feelings are welcome without judgment. If you want a therapist who welcomes your identity, language, and values, we might be a good fit.

Within each of us lies the vision and hope for the life we want to live. Yet, we can feel overwhelmed by inner or outer challenges, fears, negative beliefs, low self-esteem, anxiety or depression. In many years of practice, I have seen the resilience of the human spirit. As a Spiritual Psychotherapist, I work with traditional approaches, as well as those rooted in Transpersonal Psychology, Archetypal Psychology and Shamanism which recognize the power and strength inherent within to facilitate change. My aim is to act as guide as clients address past pain and present circumstances that limit the ability to live a life in full bloom.

Hey there! I’m Emily (she/her; I’m a Newfie at heart).
Opening up about personal struggles isn’t easy, which is why I prioritize you having a space where you feel comfortable being yourself — with no judgment, just understanding. Whether you’re dealing with addiction, an eating disorder, anxiety, or navigating life’s challenges, I want therapy to be somewhere you feel safe and supported.
It can be intimidating to start therapy, so I work hard to create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where you can open up at your own pace. I believe we all deserve to be heard and that it’s my job to help you take charge of your healing journey.

My approach to psychotherapy is founded on the belief that all people carry inherent worth and value. I take a holistic view of clients, people are multidimensional, and every aspect, biological, psychological, social, and spiritual, play a role in subjective well-being. I rely upon the perspective that clients are the experts of their lives, which is invaluable in tailoring my approach specific to you. I believe strongly that no one has a monopoly on normality. The nuanced approach I take for every client is rooted in my belief that every person is unique and deserves an approach tailored specifically to them.

It can be hard to navigate life. Sometimes we have a clear sense of what is wrong or needs to change, but we don't know how to get there. Other times we feel completely at sea, not even knowing how to name what we are feeling or what we want. There is no right way to approach this work: bring your self and we can work together to sort out the rest. Let's explore who you are, your challenges, what you feel, and what you need to help you to navigate life in a way that feels meaningful to you.
I have worked with folks struggling with a range of concerns and am looking forward to meeting you where you are at.

You hold everything together. You care for others. And somewhere along the way, you start to feel anxious, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected from yourself. I work with women and young adults navigating anxiety, grief, burnout, trauma, addiction, and relationship stress. Therapy can be a space to exhale, feel what’s been buried, name what’s been confusing, and begin to reconnect with your voice, body, and story.

Do you feel feel lost or confused about who you are, and what brings you joy or pleasure? Folks that prioritize everyone else around them end up exhausted and have no energy left. I work with people to help them find what they need – it could be validation, acknowledgement, finding the things that bring them joy, or discovering what pleasure feels like in their body. I will aid you in exploring the sensations in your body to figure out what causes stress, relaxation, or brings you joy so you have the ability to navigate between emotions and so you can live the life you want to live

My clients usually come to therapy for relief from their mental health symptoms. They are often feeling overwhelmed, have been thinking about making changes for a long time and are feeling stuck in how to move forward. Together we look at the issues, explore how it is impacting their lives, and come up goals and a treatment plan. This treatment plan includes learning more about your mental health, gaining new skills and strategies that you will carry with you long after therapy ends, and finally practicing a language of self-compassion to replace unhelpful/critical thinking.

Alcohol Use Counsellors
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
