I work with Veterans, first responders, and individuals experiencing trauma, including acute, chronic, complex, and developmental trauma. Many come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns they cannot seem to think their way out of—hypervigilance, emotional shutdown, anger, anxiety, relationship difficulties, or a sense that part of them is still living in the past. Together, we work to understand what is driving these patterns, process unresolved experiences, and create meaningful change that extends beyond symptom management into everyday life.

You might be supporting someone through MAID or VSED, caring for a dying parent, or living with grief that hasn't lessened. Perhaps you're a caregiver or healthcare worker feeling the weight of compassion fatigue. Or you're facing your own end-of-life decisions and need thoughtful, grounded support. You're looking for someone with real experience in these moments—who understands both the medical and emotional realities, who won't rush you toward closure, and who can hold space for uncertainty, fear, and hope all at once.

You: "I am READY to feel better." Me: "Right on. I've got the tools. Let's get to work." This whole therapy business may seem a little weird to you, but you have been feeling a deep lack of connection to the things that really matter to you and you don't want to keep feeling this way. You've had some struggles earlier in your life, or more recently, that have impacted how you relate to others and how you related to the world in general, and you're not liking how this restriction, this disconnect feels. You've wanted to be a better coworker, partner, or father, and you're feeling really ready to invest the time to make it happen.

Complex/Relational Trauma Therapy: Jennifer works with adults who have experienced intergenerational and interpersonal traumas in their upbringing and in adult relationships. We may have had unavailable caregivers whom did not have the tools to provide essential emotional support, which then shaped our sense of shame and other core beliefs about our worth. We needed to feel safe and protected, to be guided with the appropriate balance of security and independence to develop self-trust and confidence in our decision making. We learned to adapt and survive with coping strategies that continue to exist and may no longer be helpful.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
