Our experience includes working with unhealthy relationship dynamics, attachment trauma, codependency, emotional and psychological abuse recovery, depression, anxiety.
In order to feel loved many of us have developed patterns of abandoning our own needs in favor of pleasing others so we can feel safe in our relationships. These ways of relating and functioning may keep us comfortable but can hold us back from living a meaningful life. We aim to help you discover your true self, your values, needs, strengths, and build self-awareness so you can begin to set boundaries and live a life that feels authentic. We provide a warm, nurturing and non-judgmental space where you can explore the patterns that keep you stuck while building new habits that align with your future self.

Do you spend too much time rethinking about the past while feeling anger, shame, sadness, confusion, and guilt? Maybe you were raised by emotionally immature parents, struggle to set boundaries, find yourself in painful codependent relationships, and feel responsible for others’ emotions. You’re always in fight-flight-freeze, and can't break the patterns that keep you stuck. It's infuriating to intellectually know what to do, and not be able to DO it (for long). Your brain is in overdrive and you're stuck in "freeze", numbing out with wine, weed, social media, alcohol, or anything that works

Do you feel like you're always saying yes when you want to say no, replaying every conversation in your head, heart pounding over things that shouldn't feel this big? Maybe you grew up disappearing at the sound of footsteps, always scanning, bracing, reading the room before you could read words. Now you're the reliable one overachieving, overfunctioning, trying to prevent disaster before it hits. You’ve done the apps, the books, the deep breaths, the cold plunges, maybe a few glasses of wine to quiet the noise. But inside, you're frozen. Longing for something you’ve never fully had: a nervous system that feels safe and like home

I work with adults who experienced abuse, household dysfunction and neglect during their childhood. Harbored trauma can show up later in life with feelings of inadequacy, unfulfilling relationships, addictions, people-pleasing, having unachievable expectations for yourself/others, and much more. I help clients who have experienced adversity in their younger years understand their thought patterns, attachment styles and work towards creating a life they are comfortable living in.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
