My ideal person to work with is one who has done some personal work already and is wanting to dive deeper. I am often sought out when people have been through the system and are looking for a more compassionate and empowering perspective than what is often offered. Without condoning or promoting the use of any substances, I do work from a harm reduction perspective and support prep and integration of psychedelic experiences as well as harm reduction coaching and consulting for microdosing. I do group ceremonies with breathwork and come from an anti-oppression framework.

You look at your life, and find that something feels off. Maybe your sex life is not what you imagined it would be. Or you’re not feeling fulfilled in your relationship/s. You know what's important to you - connection? intimacy? adventure? family? - but something prevents you from living life to the fullest. Perhaps anxiety, low mood, self-criticism, or shame get in the way. Or you’ve faced a stressor or health issue that has brought new roadblocks. You may have even been on autopilot for so long, being the kind of person you “should” be for others, that you don’t know exactly who you are anymore.

I also support parents who have children with psychical and mental illnesses, such as Alopecia Areata and other auto-immune disorders, cancer, depression and anxiety.
With over 18 years experience supporting mental health and grief, I am known for helping others feel comfortable with the sometimes-intimidating experience of therapy. We all carry with us life experiences that can decrease our ability to cope at any given time. I see therapy as a time to engage in self-care and a place where one can begin healing and learn ways to cope with life’s ongoing challenges. I can help you uncover patterns that may be holding you back, validate your experiences, and collaborate with you to work toward your goals. Also, as a Social Worker, I am able to connect clients with other resources in the community.

Many of us face challenges that can sometimes feel overwhelming to navigate on our own.
Although professional support can be an important part of healing, asking for help is not always easy. I recognize that taking that first step can feel difficult, and I aim to provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with understanding and care.

So, sex doesn’t look like it does in the movies for you? Your body isn’t cooperating. You can’t keep your mind in the game. You’re unable to enjoy yourself the way you want. Maybe you avoid sex all together. You wonder: “What is everyone talking about when they say sex is great? What am I missing?” You worry: “If I really loved my partner, if we were really compatible, we wouldn’t be having sexual problems.” You ask: “Maybe I’m sexually broken?”

The path to parenthood has not looked like what you expected. Maybe you’re desperate to start your family, but it’s not happening and you’re terrified that parenthood isn’t going to happen for you. Maybe you’ve experienced the devastation of pregnancy loss and are left grieving in isolation, wondering “does this grief even count if it was “just” a miscarriage?”. How does cancer affect mental health?
A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can significantly influence the mental health of any individual. Being diagnosed with cancer often introduces a sense of uncertainty about the future, which can cause clients to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, and significant distress. Many cancer patients may also worry about the toll that their diagnosis may have on their family, their physical health, their job, and their financial situation. The compounding of such stressors can also decrease mental health in clients and may lead to additional symptoms that can influence mental health, such as sleeping difficulties or social withdrawal.
What is the best psychological therapy for cancer patients?
The best type of psychological therapy for cancer patients is highly dependent on the needs of the individual. The therapy type that a client benefits from may also depend on what stage of the cancer journey they are in. Recently diagnosed cancer patients, for instance, may benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which can help clients develop skills to manage the emotional distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Alternatively, cancer patients further along in their journey may benefit from therapies like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or other forms of mindfulness therapy to help manage symptoms or physical pain associated with treatment. Clients may also consider group therapy, which offers cancer patients an opportunity to receive support from other individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
Are there any risks or drawbacks in going to therapy while dealing with cancer?
Although attending therapy while dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be helpful, one major concern for cancer patients can be the financial cost of seeking therapy. Many therapists are out-of-network, meaning they do not accept insurance, and thus clients are expected to pay the entirety of the session fee. Since many cancer patients may be out of work as a result of their diagnosis or cancer treatment regimen, the costs of therapy sessions can be substantial. Luckily, many cancer centers and local clinics may offer free or substantially reduced-cost counselling services to cancer patients and their families. In addition, cancer patients may be eligible for grants or other forms of funding from local agencies and nonprofits to seek therapy for their cancer diagnosis. Such opportunities can be very helpful for cancer patients, as they allow clients to obtain the benefits of therapy without the financial strain.
How long does cancer therapy typically last?
The length of cancer therapy depends on the needs of each client. In some cases, cancer patients may only require therapeutic support during the period following their initial diagnosis—to help manage the uncertainty and shock of a cancer diagnosis. In other cases, clients may choose to receive therapy throughout their treatment, and even following, their cancer journey. Pursuing therapy for a longer period of time can help clients develop a deeper relationship with their therapist and provide opportunity to process the challenges presented by cancer treatment, such as physical pain, and challenges associated with cancer survivorship, such as ongoing identity concerns, physical limitations, or relationship challenges.
