I also conduct psychodiagnostic assessments, learning disability and ADHD assessments, and assessments and referrals for
transgender
clients seeking gender-affirming medical interventions.
I believe that many issues considered "symptoms" are adaptations that were once necessary for enduring difficult circumstances or attachment relationships. I work with clients to determine whether these adaptations are helpful in the current context. These issues can include relationship patterns with yourself or others, emotional and cognitive responses to relational trauma and abuse, overwhelming emotions, difficulty identifying feelings, dissociation, disordered eating, body image concerns, anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. I also work with clients exploring their gender identity and sexual orientation.

I work primarily with the queer community, and specifically with
transgender
folks navigating their identity and the transition process.
Life can be difficult - we all go through struggles as we navigate the ups and downs of our experience. This can be further complicated when we're a member of a minority or marginalized group. As a queer woman myself, I am passionate about working with other queer individuals to help them explore and discover who they are, and how they want to express themselves in the world. Whether you're struggling with your sexuality, gender identity, depression, anxiety, or just having a hard time managing stress and life changes - I'm here to help!

Stardust is a queer-owned collective of mental health workers trying to make counselling more accessible and affirming to folks experiencing systemic oppression. All of our team members have lived experience with mental health issues and/or neurodivergence, and we recognize the role that oppression plays in causing and aggravating mental health stuff. We work from a trauma-informed, intersectional and social justice-focused framework. We believe in harm reduction and are strongly sex and sex-worker positive, kink positive, familiar with non-traditional relationship dynamics, body-positive, and anti-capitalist.

The high school and undergraduate years are filled with possibility, but possibility is complicated. Recently you've found yourself going down spirals of self-doubt, feeling the pressure of school and others' expectations of you. On some level, you know that you've made it this far. On another level, you've wanted to crawl away from the world and dreamed about running away from your life, completely unable to understand how others get through their days and seem to be doing okay. You get your schoolwork done (most of the time), and you keep making it through, but it's painful. It shouldn't be this hard, should it?

I’m here for the parents who are not ready to give up hope, and for the teens and young adults who are clinging to life. Whether because of trauma, of neurodivergence (ADHD/ADD) or the need for gender-affirming therapy, life has been rocky. It’s been difficult to connect, sleep has been elusive, panic has been setting in and the future seems sort of bleak. At least that’s how it’s been, at least for right now. So you're looking for a therapist who gets it: your gender identity, your life experience and your inner knowing matter.

I see therapy as a space to speak openly about what it means to be a human. I am a therapist who values safety and understands that trust must be earned. I would like to offer you a warm, welcoming environment, where any topic can be explored without judgement. I have 7 years experience working in the mental health field with children, teens, adults and seniors. Most recently, my work has been in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, where I supported Trans and Non-Binary youth, living with complex mental health concerns.

I practice trauma-informed somatic & relational psychotherapy. Relational psychotherapy values how the relationships in our life, from birth to death, impact how we understand ourselves, each other, our connections, ruptures and how we engage in daily experiences. Body-centered therapy uses the body to access, resource and heal unresolved trauma. Developing somatic resources, increases our capacity to feel safe in our bodies, gain a deeper knowing of ourselves, feel resourced & to heal. Together we will explore, what's happening in your life, where you struggle, your hopes, and how to move towards healing & thriving.

Welcome! Do you feel stuck, lost, out of place, and told to just deal with it? Are you walking on eggshells with your partner? Do you feel disconnected from life or your relationship? Has it ever felt like no one cared - that what you feel doesn't matter? If these descriptions sound familiar, it's because so many people are experiencing similar hardships.

Things feel really hard right now. The world is literally on fire, and the world we thought we would be living in doesn’t exist in the same way that it did even five years ago. Everything is changing. The way we relate to and engage with each other, the industries we want to work in, the state of housing and education, it’s wild out there. Living in this world today can be equated to a sensation of repeatedly running into a locked door, and no matter how hard you hit it, it doesn’t open. It can all feel really hopeless and bleak. You wish people understood what living in this world feels like to you, that they could understand.

Many people hold the belief that challenges with emotional and mental well-being are a result of difficulty in coping, functioning, or adaptability. We may attempt to use willpower, intellect, and behavioural changes to tackle these issues; if these attempts fail to bring us inner peace or lasting change, we can begin to feel ashamed, alone, and stagnant. It is my belief that challenges with mental health, emotion, and relationships do not exist in a vacuum. These are more than personal failings at coping and functioning. Once we settle into this understanding, we can begin to uncover the deeper questions of your healing work.

All the same, know that you are not alone in wanting to harness your inner power and feel more control of your life. Together we can explore your internal worlds, deep emotions, and find peace with the parts of you that are in conflict.

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.
What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.
How can I recognise a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognise a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
