I am the co-founder and Clinical Director of eFIT Institute, and a registered clinical psychologist with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Toronto. My style is empathetic, non-judgmental, and culturally sensitive, and I strive to create a space where you can safely explore your inner world and move toward genuine and lasting emotional change. My approach focuses on addressing the root of struggles, deeply and wholly, rather than relying solely on strategies that manage symptoms. I am especially passionate about supporting people who carry shame or a painful sense of not being enough.

My clients want to talk about relationships (with themselves and others) and various types of trauma and stress. They feel stuck in old patterns that no longer work for them despite "knowing better" and later ruminating and falling into self-blame. Some of my clients have tried to self-medicate and/or escape into dissociation and distraction-based dopamine highs because they are drowning in emotions, and their nervous systems are buzzing on high alert.

I understand that life can be challenging, but I will help you through your anxiety, trauma, and self-esteem issues.
Have you ever felt like you do not belong, that you are gravely misunderstood? What about striving for perfection in all aspects of your life? Or constantly feeling like a stranger in your own body? Does any of this sound familiar to you? I can assure you that you are not alone in these struggles. We might try to put on a brave face for the world; however, cracks begin forming in our façade, and self-doubt creeps in and eats away at our sense of self. I am here to normalize these feelings and empower you to become the best version of yourself, whatever that might look like. You are allowed to take up space in your own healing.

I work with clients struggling with anxiety, and self-esteem.
Do you find yourself often putting others' needs first that then creates increased resentment that you then feel guilty about? Self-doubt and constant anxiety may be some of the reasons that putting your needs first has, and continues to be difficult. This experience can be lonely, may impact your physical body, and in the way that you speak to yourself. It may be that your emotional needs were not seen/met throughout your life beginning with your parent(s), and maybe you taught yourself to be the strong one. Please know that being strong wasn't wrong, it was smart. Still, survival isn’t the same as healing.

Anxiety, stress, and self-criticism can easily disconnect you from the present and make it difficult to fully enjoy your life. Together, we can focus on processing past experiences, learning new coping skills, or finding strategies that help lead to your goals and the life you want to live. Even if you don’t quite know what your goals are just yet, that can also be a great place to start. I have found that a relaxed environment helps to ease the tension of doing therapy, making the process more approachable and allowing us to do meaningful work that helps you connect with ways that lead you to the life you want to live.

Self Esteem Counsellors

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
