I'm trained in Emotion Focused Therapy and experienced in supporting caregivers with emotion focused approaches to parenting as well as traditional behavioural approaches to parenting.
Hi! I'm Zeb. I understand that when a young person is experiencing emotional or behavioural problems it reorganizes the way that a whole family functions. I believe that better understanding our own emotions and the emotions of others is the key to helping make positive change in the lives of children and families.

Maybe you’re not quite sure when or how it happened, but somewhere along the line, life happened, and you no longer know who you are, your relationship with your partner doesn’t feel as close as it once did, or maybe your parenting isn’t what you imagined it would be.
You want to feel alive again! Each new day is an opportunity and a gift you get to experience. Your mind is calm, your body feels well, and your spirit is nourished. You’re able to love and accept yourself, and your relationships feel good. You’re well and able to take on life with confidence. I can help you get here!

The emotions you go through as a parent are valid and it’s not always easy to know what to do with them.
Do you feel like you're constantly juggling your child's needs while struggling to find time for yourself? Are you overwhelmed by the challenge of navigating school, home, and community resources for your child? Does finding the right support for yourself feel exhausting and impossible at times? Moving through these kinds of experiences can be hard and sometimes powerful feelings surface, like guilt, shame, and sadness that can start to impact other important relationships in your life. Processing these emotions in a formal setting can provide greater clarity and confidence to help you move forward in a way that aligns with you.

I have been through many of my own challenges, parenting, divorce, co- parenting, blended family and family members with addiction.
Anxiety and depression are often our body's check engine light, and if we do not service ourselves the way we take care of everyone else... we break down. If you have never tried counselling, it can be a scary idea... trying something new always is! But what if counselling can help you build a life that brings more peace and self-compassion? It is possible to learn new skills, create new tools and strengthen your relationships! If you feel like you are planted in the darkness and you want to grow from where you are right now, this is the place for you!

I focus on family dynamic issues and topics such as relationship expectations, domestic conflict, marital discord, parenting challenges and issues often before the court.
People enter counselling for a variety of reasons. Finding the right fit requires bravery, trust, and honesty; that's your part. It requires someone that has lived experience, empathy and understanding, this is my part. My service focuses on hearing your truth and perspective to identify what can or needs to change. Often people want better, to have less guilt and shame, to feel confident, competent and to be seen as equals. Some are looking to vent, some to problem solve and others to engage in finding compromise. We can create the space to safety enter into these discussions and to move towards the future you desire.

Parenting might feel harder than expected, not like you imagined, and you’re hoping to feel more supported and understood.
As a parent to three little ones, I’ve experienced many of these challenges myself. I commit to showing up as my authentic self in our sessions, honouring the courage it takes for you to do the same. I believe therapy is a mutual and collaborative process, and I bring energy, warmth, humour (when appropriate!), and gentle challenges into our work.

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
