With diverse and broad training in Relational, Gestalt, and Somatic Psychotherapy, EMDR, Structural Dissociation Theory or Parts Work, Polyvagal Theory and Nervous System Regulation, Mindfulness and Embodiment, and
EFT
, I adapt the therapy to each client’s unique needs.
Do you feel like you’ve gotten too far away from who you really are, or who you want to be? Together, we will bring awareness to where you have been, where you are now, and where you want to go. While insight is essential, true transformation comes not just from being aware of how the past has influenced the present, but by processing through the mental, physical, emotional, and neurological remnants of those previous experiences and embodying new ways of being. Therapy can help you gain the clarity, confidence, and courage you need to change your life.

Emotionally Focused
Therapy is a tried and tested modality.
You’re probably feeling so alone and hopeless right now. The relationship you once looked to for strength and joy is beginning to feel like a source of pain and disconnection. You feel like you have tried everything that you know to make your relationship better. You’ve tried talking about your issues but somehow always end up spiraling into a fight- leaving you feeling frustrated, disconnected and more hurt each time. You worry about where your relationship is headed if something doesn’t change. I want you to know you are in the right place. You can transform your disconnection and negative communication patterns into connection.

I provide a safe place for clients to share their most vulnerable thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I help you figure out what is keeping you stuck and work with you toward the goals that you believe will make your life more fulfilling. I do this by helping you challenge thoughts and beliefs that leave you feeling sad or anxious, helping you understand and share your emotions with others, and by aiding you in changing behaviours you no longer find useful. I use a combination of
emotionally focused
therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and trauma informed therapy.

I like to incorporate Emotion-Focused Therapy (
EFT
), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Positive Psychology, mindfulness and more to work with you to uncover the messages behind the emotions.
Are you quick to anger and can’t understand why? Tired of constantly hurting your loved ones? For men, anger is the most socially accepted emotion to express, but when you feel out of control and it’s too big or out of place, it comes with consequences, both external and internal. However, this anger is trying to tell you something, to alert you to important needs being ignored, shamed or suppressed. Many of us have learned to approach relationships in a way that leads to resentment, jealousy, hatred, fear or shame. Through greater access you can shift old patterns and evolve into a more genuine fulfilled version of yourself.

In addition to my Master's in Psychotherapy, I've trained for an additional year in
Emotionally Focused
Therapy - proven to be the best therapy for helping couples break negative cycles.
I help couples who aren't satisfied in their relationships, and individuals dealing with stress, anxiety, and depression. The clients I see are hurting, but they're capable, smart, and ready to break free from negative patterns. If you're struggling in your relationship, maybe you've tried voicing your concerns but the communication in your relationship just isn't working. You want to feel connected again, instead of holding back your concerns and growing further apart.

Emotionally Focused Counsellors
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
