I offer therapy and assessment to adults and seniors , helping them find a clearer path to getting back to their true selves, and teaching new ways of viewing all the bumps, twists and curves in the road that are encountered along the way.
"There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so" (Shakespeare, Hamlet). As a registered Psychologist experienced in treating a variety of mental health issues, I could not agree more. My passion is in the treatment of anxiety and anxiety-related disorders, including perinatal anxiety, excessive worry, stress, difficulty coping, insomnia, low self-esteem, perfectionism, panic, OCD, and cognitive change in aging. In today's modern world, it is easy to lose ourselves to the stresses of everyday life, which is why a strong focus of my practice is on helping clients enact change to achieve greater balance in their lives.

As a therapist, my goal is to walk with you through your journey of self-discovery. Sometimes it isn't very comfortable to explore who we are, but at other times, it is enlightening and insightful to experience your most authentic self. Coming to therapy is a big step, and from personal experience, I understand and appreciate that hesitancy.

Everyone comes to therapy with a unique set of challenges. We'll work together to find an approach which is right for you. I draw on theoretical and practical experience to help clients navigate their way toward better mental health in a way that fits with their values. Working within a strengths-based and trauma-informed framework, I create a space in which you feel safe to share your concerns. Depending on your goals, we may challenge unhelpful thoughts, explore meaning, or simply engage in therapeutic dialogue, approaching life’s big questions from a place of non-judgmental curiosity.

I believe therapy allows people to share their stories and feel their emotions in an environment that is safe and considers their unique needs. I strive to validate people’s emotions (because they are understandable), to highlight their strengths (because sometimes people can’t see them) and to build hope (because it can be restored).

Do you feel disconnected from yourself and others? Maybe you feel stuck and are looking for some direction? Perhaps you're looking to improve your relationships, get through a tough time, overcome unhelpful coping behaviours, or just need to talk to someone for some clarity. Do you feel like you have lost yourself in your relationship? Like you have lost your self-esteem and confidence? Maybe you're longing for a healthy relationship but don't know where to start. I understand that trauma can deeply impact relationships, leading to difficulties with trust, intimacy, and communication and can cause a myraid of emotions.

How can I find a therapist in Hamilton?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
