I have been through many of my own challenges, parenting, divorce, co-parenting, blended family and family members with addiction.
Anxiety and depression are often our body's check engine light, and if we do not service ourselves the way we take care of everyone else... we break down. If you have never tried counselling, it can be a scary idea... trying something new always is! But what if counselling can help you build a life that brings more peace and self-compassion? It is possible to learn new skills, create new tools and strengthen your relationships! If you feel like you are planted in the darkness and you want to grow from where you are right now, this is the place for you!

Life transitions can include parenting, marriage, job change, empty nest, changing relationships, pregnancy, loss, divorce, caring for aging parents, perimenopause, menopause and retirement.
Sometimes life feels challenging and hard, and we feel like we lose ourselves a little along the way. This is when it’s most helpful to slow down, take a deep breath, and consider support to feel less alone and figure out next steps. I am focused on helping individuals learn and apply new skills and strategies to make impactful shifts that lead to meaningful change in themselves and in relationships with loved ones. I provide a non-judgmental space so clients can feel safe to openly share their thoughts, emotions and experiences. I specialize in supporting individuals with life transitions, women’s issues and caregiver support.

In addition, I have experience with those transitioning into different life stages such as relationship challenges, separation/ divorce, adulthood, parenthood, retirement, or people who may be experiencing present or historical family or cultural challenges related to immigration.
I believe people are experts in their own lives and have the answers they are looking for within themselves. They just might need some help along the path to finding those answers. I’ve trained in several different types of therapies (i.e., CBT, ACT, MI), but I often use approaches that focus on harnessing client strengths and being in the present moment.

I have worked with individuals, couples and families from a pastoral framework for more than twenty years, through a wide variety of major life events such as marriage and pre-marriage counselling, separations & divorce, couples with partner addictions, violence / betrayal, birth of children and the loss of children from serious illness and stillborn births.
Navigating life and relationships can be challenging, exhausting, confusing, and downright overwhelming. In a world where one is constantly connected through social media, increasingly, we can feel isolated and alone as we strive to meet relationship and work demands, while living up to our own personal and relational expectations. In seasons of uncertainty, it is normal to feel a sense of spinning out of control, and struggling with where do I go from here? The thought of therapy can be scary, which is why I am committed to creating an environment of trust and understanding.

My personal “therapist toolbox” includes a spectrum of ancient & contemporary healing methodologies such as CBT, DBT & narrative therapy, as well as a few feathered and furry farm friends who are known to assist with challenges such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, parenting, separation & divorce, sexual trauma & disorders, and addictions.
Can you imagine if therapy took place while hiking through the forest, sunbathing in a field of wildflowers, chilling with some chickens, sitting around a campfire or simply from the comfort of your kitchen table? I believe that therapy has a real image problem that could be improved by embracing a healing realm which includes mother nature, play and genuine human connection. If you are considering therapy for you or someone you care about, but the thought of sitting in an office turns you off, then let's connect where you're at, or where I'm at: on 25 aces in Hamilton's wild west Flamborough!

I specialize in relational and betrayal trauma, PTSD, narcissistic abuse recovery, relationship issues, such as emotional unavailability, infidelity, breakups, and divorce.
Are you feeling emotionally drained from relationship challenges like conflict, communication issues, or emotional manipulation? Whether it's romantic relationships, family dynamics, or friendships, it’s easy to feel lost, anxious, or even stuck in a cycle that’s hard to break. You might be the one who always "fixes" things—carrying the emotional weight, putting others first, and silently hoping things will get better. But what about you? Relationship pain often shows up as stress, anxiety, depression, or grief. You deserve support that helps you reconnect with yourself, feel emotionally lighter, and find clarity.

Whether your grief is from recent or long ago, the result of a death, divorce, recent diagnosis, or any other life transition.
Have you ever felt stuck? Misunderstood? Do you find yourself wondering why life still feels so hard? Questioning what's wrong with you? Does it feel like you've lost yourself? Whether you are grieving the death of a loved one, a diagnosis, or any other life loss, it can feel destabilizing. This often creates a vicious cycle of emotional isolation, distraction/avoidance, feeling like you need to keep busy, hoping "time will heal" your pain and feeling the need to "be strong." This cycle unfortunately only perpetuates our pain. You aren't alone, and this isn't your fault this feels so hard to hold.

Divorce Counsellors

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
