Are you ready to feel better? Cognitive Behaviour Therapy ( CBT ) is a proven, effective treatment to help you work through life's challenges. If you are looking for relief from anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, insomnia, chronic pain, panic attacks, addictions, or other mental health concerns, CBT may be the right therapy for you. Using a variety of tools and strategies, CBT helps us to see how our thought patterns influence how we feel, and how we act in the world. Our thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and our body are so connected - each one re-inforces the other, making it very easy to get caught in a downward spiral.

Thank you for visiting my profile. I offer E.M.D.R. therapy, a trauma-informed therapy, to treat past disturbing memories. Do you experience symptoms in the spectrum of anxiety disorders (social anxiety, panic attack), or depressive disorders (depression, bipolar)? Or stress disorders (PTSD, trauma)? Some memories are still a disturbance in your present. When the natural reprocessing gets stuck, you don't have peace. I also offer therapy that focuses on the present with approaches, such as CBT or ACT.

My approach draws from CBT & Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), but my true focus is on adapting my approach to suit every person and their goals.
I believe therapy allows people to share their stories and feel their emotions in an environment that is safe and considers their unique needs. I strive to validate people’s emotions (because they are understandable), to highlight their strengths (because sometimes people can’t see them) and to build hope (because it can be restored).

I take a Narrative and Cognitive Behavioural approach that can help you address both symptoms and root causes.
I really believe in a holistic approach to health, and my past experiences as a fitness coach and in Christian ministry have helped me understand humans as multi-faceted creatures. Anxiety and depression seem commonplace today, yet often stem from a variety of issues. If your life is lacking spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, or physically, then your body and mind may be telling you that something needs to be done. From mindset, to past experiences that haunt you, to poor relationship skills and everything in between, we can work to understand your symptoms and build a life set up for success in all domains.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario (catastrophizing) or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
