Thank you for visiting my profile. I offer E.M.D.R. therapy, a trauma-informed therapy, to treat past disturbing memories. Do you experience symptoms in the spectrum of anxiety disorders (social anxiety , panic attack), or depressive disorders (depression, bipolar)? Or stress disorders (PTSD, trauma)? Some memories are still a disturbance in your present. When the natural reprocessing gets stuck, you don't have peace. I also offer therapy that focuses on the present with approaches, such as CBT or ACT.

My goal every day is to offer a supportive, practical approach to therapy. Throughout my career, I’ve tended to work primarily with people who have mood or anxiety difficulties. Some are undergoing or have undergone significant life transitions such as grief from loss. Others come to me for guidance around work-related stress or burnout. And others wish to examine the patterns and practices around their substance use.

Overwhelmed? Alone? Stuck ? Are you experiencing a transition in your life that seems unbearable? Are you feeling angst and anxiety that has overtaken your daily schedule? My approach is client centered, warm and non judgmental. I feel it is important to create a safe space for all individuals. I think addressing the whole individual (mind, body, and soul) is imperative to healing. For those who prefer, I am willing to discuss existential questions like “Who am I?, What is my life’s purpose?, What is my mission in life?” While sitting with me we can explore your connection with a Higher Power(God, Mother Earth, The Universe etc.)

Since 2009 I have had extensive training working in the mental health system with adults and families who have experienced trauma, anxiety /depression, addiction/substance issues, family/relationship issues, and other stressors in life.
Have you ever felt stuck? Do you ever think therapy is just not for me or think to yourself, is it worth it? Well, believe me, it is. One of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. My belief is that healing is a collaborative endeavor that requires honest caring without judgement.

Accepting NEW Clients. Hi! I’m Ash (they/them). I work with youth (17+) and adults who are living with anxiety , eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, OSFED), substance use concerns, and depression. Are you someone who experiences strong emotions, but doesn’t always manage them in helpful ways? Perhaps you respond impulsively at times and engage in actions that are inconsistent with how you want to show up for yourself or others. At other times, you might become overwhelmed by feelings like anxiety , fear, or shame and then withdraw or avoid doing things that could bring you joy or move you closer to recovery.

I work with people struggling with anxiety and panic disorders, low mood, relationship struggles, grief, trauma and more.
I consider it a privilege every single time someone welcomes me to share in their therapeutic process. My intention is to bring authenticity, empathy and non-judgemental guidance to the room. I believe that therapy is a very personal experience for each of my clients, so I try to enter the therapeutic relationship as a 'clean slate', free of judgement or any agenda other than what they want or need in their healing. In my practice, I work from an anti-oppressive, client-focused, strength-based framework and believe that therapy is a collaborative process and that you are the expert of your experience.

Sometimes the challenges that we face become too difficult to cope with on our own. I strongly believe that your challenges should not continue to hold you back. Instead, they can become catalysts for the life that you want to live. I offer professional support to help you pursue that life by introducing new ways of thinking, behaving and coping. I specialize in helping clients with stress and anxiety management including overthinking, rumination, panic symptoms and perfectionism. My practice also focuses on providing treatments that target depression and low mood as well as self-defeating behaviours.

I focus on addictions, trauma, depression, anxiety and personal growth.
We are all on a path of healing and discovery that leads, eventually and inevitably, to the realization of our true potential. I see psychotherapy as a powerful companion on this journey - it is a helpful friend that can help ease the burden during dark times, and it is a ray of light that can guide us more quickly beyond our own limitations when we are moving towards a goal. My practice is based in modern cognitive therapy and the neuroscience of trauma, while always anchored in the wisdom of mindfulness, acceptance and nondual awareness.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
