My work experience in the non-profit sector has found me working with those struggling with mental health challenges (general anxiety/ panic, depression, OCD, agoraphobia, trauma), addiction, chronic illness/pain, relationship issues and domestic abuse.
My work is grounded in critical and feminist theories. All too often our emotional and social challenges are treated as problems that lie completely within us, when really we are simply reacting to the world in which we live. Part of your work with me will involve looking at how your troubles developed to give you insight into how to resolve those issues.

Maybe you've been struggling with anxiety, depression, or both.
I believe in therapy because I've experienced and witnessed how it works. I offer you practical coping tools, while helping you to better understand all of your parts ( anxious parts, angry parts, numb parts, critical parts, etc). As your therapist, I don't tell you how to feel or think. I offer informed guidance to help you heal in the directions you need.

I support deep-feeling adults in their 20s-40s with a history of trauma, anxiety, codependency, low self-esteem.
How do you move forward when you long to break cycles in your personal or relational life, but can't seem to make it happen? In the face of overwhelming emotions, how do you find your way back to a baseline of ease and alignment with your values? If these questions stir something in you, I’m glad you’re here. I help adults who are feeling emotionally "stuck" to break cycles and heal trauma by befriending your emotions, regulating your nervous system, and tapping into your body's innate wisdom and resources, so that you can shift out of survival mode into a state of enriching connection to yourself and others.

Maybe you look fine on the outside, but inside you feel anxious, flat, unmotivated, or hard on yourself all the time.
I work with men around anxiety, self-esteem, motivation, depression, emotional regulation, ADHD, chronic illness, and chronic pain. A lot of this work is about untangling the pressure to keep pushing through when something in you is clearly not okay. We can look at the habits, beliefs, and patterns that have been running the show and start building something

Do you ever feel like your emotions are trying to tell you something, but you’re not quite sure how to listen? Have you noticed patterns of avoidance or disconnection in your relationships and want to understand what’s happening beneath the surface? Hi, I’m Carlin Palme, and I believe that, while it's important to feel like we have a handle on our emotions, they’re essential tools for growth, connection, and change. If you are overly suppressed or disconnected, it can be hard to feel like you are living a fulfilling and meaningful life, even when you are surrounded by great things and caring people.

Over the years, I’ve supported people through a wide range of experiences, including trauma, anxiety, depression, and ADHD.
You might be feeling restless or uneasy, like you can’t fully trust your own body or emotions. Maybe your thoughts are racing, or you feel disconnected—from yourself, your body, or the people you care about. Life happens, and sometimes our minds and bodies need time to catch up. Experiences like trauma or unexpected life changes can leave us feeling uncertain, alone, or unsafe in the world. We all carry experiences that shape how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. Healing doesn’t happen overnight, but together, we can create a space where you feel supported, understood, and empowered to reconnect with yourself.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
