I work with youth (17+) and adults who are living with anxiety, eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, OSFED), substance use concerns, and depression.
I use an integrative approach, drawing from Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-E). I use these therapies from a client-centred, strengths-based, anti-oppressive practice, and trauma-informed lens where I hold a non-judgmental space for exploration and growth.

My main focus is on individuals who are struggling with burnout, but also anxiety and depression, life and health transitions, grief, fertility issues, identity and self-esteem.
How do we navigate change? As we’ve all learned in these past years, the ability to navigate change has been uncertain and very tough. But whether it’s a change in your mood, your physical health, your career, your family life and relationships, or struggling through challenges that have been out of your control, it can be a very bewildering, confusing and even scary time. As a therapist, my approach centres your safety and empowering you to uncover your inner abilities and strengths. My role is to walk beside you through the tough challenges and be a guide through – what might feel like – the wilderness of your own emotions.

I do this by helping you challenge thoughts and beliefs that leave you feeling sad or anxious, helping you understand and share your emotions with others, and by aiding you in changing behaviours you no longer find useful.
I provide cognitive processing therapy (CPT) for individuals who are struggling with trauma or PTSD. CPT focuses on changing the beliefs that have been altered by the traumatic experience to reduce PTSD symptoms. CPT involves using worksheets to change negative thoughts about the trauma, such as: it was my fault, I am a bad person, or people are dangerous.

I work with people struggling with anxiety and panic disorders, low mood, relationship struggles, grief, trauma and more.
I consider it a privilege every single time someone welcomes me to share in their therapeutic process. My intention is to bring authenticity, empathy and non-judgemental guidance to the room. I believe that therapy is a very personal experience for each of my clients, so I try to enter the therapeutic relationship as a 'clean slate', free of judgement or any agenda other than what they want or need in their healing. In my practice, I work from an anti-oppressive, client-focused, strength-based framework and believe that therapy is a collaborative process and that you are the expert of your experience.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
