As a confused youth I was lucky that I found a great therapist that helped me get past having been bullied, my low self-esteem, my anger and get off a career path that was not for me.
Having been at one time or another afraid , broken hearted, a student, a client, a stressed out single-parent, an unhappy employee, overwhelmed by loss, a teenager, a confused adult and then healed and happy has given me a unique perspective that will allow me to help you understand and overcome the ups and downs in your life past and present and future.

Anxiety, Trauma, Attachment injuries, Relationships, Life Transitions, Anger Management, these are the issues I work with most often.
I am somewhat selective with my clients, because I want to ensure that I am working in areas where I have genuine competency. Anxiety, Trauma, Emotional Regulation, Self-Esteem and helping with Relationships are the areas where I spend most of my time and where Clients report the biggest changes. Typically my caseload consists of previous clients who return to therapy to work on something new, or continue after taking a break. However, I have expanded availability and have space for 8-10 new clients. I also fucking love working with people who are hesitant about starting therapy, or who haven't liked their previous therapist.

I work with clients dealing with depression, trauma, anger, or grief, whether it's affecting them individually or within their relationships.
On the outside, everything looks fine—but inside, it’s a different story. Your reactions—pulling away, shutting down, or getting upset—aren’t the issue; they are protective strategies - signals that something deeper needs attention. These patterns often stem from unresolved trauma, attachment wounds, grief and loss, or chronic stress. Over time, you learned how to keep it all in and push through. I help individuals and couples make sense of these emotional patterns, get clearer on what they need, and build stronger, more secure relationships—with themselves and with others.

I love to help clients learn to regulate strong emotions such as Anxiety, Anger, Shame, & Grief; to lift out of Depression; to process Traumas; to cope with and make changes in stress from work, school, family; to support caregivers; to deal with issues around aging and health; to improve relationships and self esteem, and to increase self-compassion.
After 27+ years of practice, I know that one approach does not fit all, and my skill set draws upon Mindfulness, Family Systems Theory, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, CBT, EFFT, Mindful Self-Compassion practices, and EMDR. I also run the 8 week Mindful Self-Compassion course locally.

Do you ever feel like your emotions are trying to tell you something, but you’re not quite sure how to listen? Have you noticed patterns of avoidance or disconnection in your relationships and want to understand what’s happening beneath the surface? Hi, I’m Carlin Palme, and I believe that, while it's important to feel like we have a handle on our emotions, they’re essential tools for growth, connection, and change. If you are overly suppressed or disconnected, it can be hard to feel like you are living a fulfilling and meaningful life, even when you are surrounded by great things and caring people.

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
