My method is integrative and incorporates elements of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, emotion-focused therapy and attachment theories; tailored to meet each individual client’s values, needs, and strengths. My work is grounded in social justice and culturally-affirming perspectives and takes a person-in-environment approach.

Currently, we are living in a world that is at best tense, and finding our peace is a daily struggle. In our lives, we are encouraged to, told, and at times, forced to continue as if nothing is happening or seriously wrong. In my practice, I provide space for open dialogue and a holistic approach to therapy which encourages recovery and healing. In my over 17 years of working as a clinical social worker with youths and adults ranging from diverse & intersectional backgrounds, I have learned that the space we create together in combination with the relational work is the most important.

You are constantly walking on eggshells. Always on high alert, your highly sensitive brain is always scanning other people's expressions to make sure everything is okay. You over-apologize, over-explain, over-share or disconnect and push your emotions deep down. You feel different - too emotional, too “much”. A sense of loneliness and longing for something you can’t describe looms in the background of everything you do. No matter what you try the feeling that there’s “something wrong with you” just won’t let up. You try to feel better - you have journaled, meditated, tried therapy, medication, breathwork…but nothing helps for long

Have you ever felt like you do not belong, that you are gravely misunderstood? What about striving for perfection in all aspects of your life? Or constantly feeling like a stranger in your own body? Does any of this sound familiar to you? I can assure you that you are not alone in these struggles. We might try to put on a brave face for the world; however, cracks begin forming in our façade, and self-doubt creeps in and eats away at our sense of self. I am here to normalize these feelings and empower you to become the best version of yourself, whatever that might look like. You are allowed to take up space in your own healing.

People encounter problems in their lives and come into relationship with them. Sometimes problems stay around longer than people would like - sometimes even long enough that they start to see themselves as the problem. My approach follows the narrative therapy practice of externalizing and examining problems so that we can reveal their histories, their impacts, and also the ways you have resisted their unwanted influence on your life. This approach focuses on the active role you play in pursuing the life that you want, as well as the people and things that support you in that pursuit.

Teen Counsellors
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
