Through an eclectic approach, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Positive therapy modalities we will work on developing awareness, new ways of coping, self-
acceptance
, and resilience.
Are you feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Does it seem like everyone around you is adjusting to life changes more easily? Though you may feel alone in this struggle, I assure you that it’s more common than you think. Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious and uncertain as they attempt to manage relationships, career, and life transitions. But it doesn’t have to be that way, you can feel more at ease and in control of your life. Accessing support and opening up can feel vulnerable. Which is why you will be provided a welcoming, safe, and flexible therapeutic space where you feel heard and validated.

The work I do is grounded in an evidence-based form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) called
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy (
ACT
) which incorporates mindfulness meditation, yoga and solutions for behaviour change strategies.
I am an active and empathetic counsellor, these qualities tend to make it easier for new clients to engage in this process with me. I believe that struggling is a normal part of being human, my commitment is to show up with respect and to listen. I work in a supervised social work role at The Zen Social Worker practice in Hamilton, Ontario. In our work together, I will introduce you to new ways of thinking about the difficulties you're struggling with by encouraging you to use mindfulness meditation and movement in a way that can offer new solutions to old problems.

Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy (
ACT
), but also draws on a wide range of perspectives that have been effective for empowering clients through their life challenges and transitions, including DBT and CBT.
Life often presents itself as a series of changes. Some of these changes lift us up, and some challenge us. If you are feeling unsettled by stresses in your life, wondering how to achieve more balance, meaning and purpose, counselling may help.

My approach draws from CBT &
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy (
ACT
), but my true focus is on adapting my approach to suit every person and their goals.
I believe therapy allows people to share their stories and feel their emotions in an environment that is safe and considers their unique needs. I strive to validate people’s emotions (because they are understandable), to highlight their strengths (because sometimes people can’t see them) and to build hope (because it can be restored).

Acceptance
and Commitment, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Trauma specific approaches.
I believe you are already holding the keys to experience and embrace the inner wholeness you deserve. There are many opportunities for us to be hurt in life and in relationships. The problem is that we can carry these emotional wounds and even physical scars for a long time and spend our energy trying to conceal them. However, if you have come this far I believe you want more than this. I think this is your time. It’s your time to discover the healing you deserve. It’s time for you to give yourself permission to journey towards wholeness and to live your life with a new sense of purpose.

We are all on a path of healing and discovery that leads, eventually and inevitably, to the realization of our true potential. I see psychotherapy as a powerful companion on this journey - it is a helpful friend that can help ease the burden during dark times, and it is a ray of light that can guide us more quickly beyond our own limitations when we are moving towards a goal. My practice is based in modern cognitive therapy and the neuroscience of trauma, while always anchored in the wisdom of mindfulness,
acceptance
and nondual awareness.

Are you ready to feel better? Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a proven, effective treatment to help you work through life's challenges. If you are looking for relief from anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, insomnia, chronic pain, panic attacks, addictions, or other mental health concerns, CBT may be the right therapy for you. Using a variety of tools and strategies, CBT helps us to see how our thought patterns influence how we feel, and how we
act
in the world. Our thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and our body are so connected - each one re-inforces the other, making it very easy to get caught in a downward spiral.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
