I often work with people who have experienced relational trauma (emotional/physical/ sexual abuse, or neglect), who want to recover and experience healthier relationships.
I am deeply invested in anti-oppressive practice. I work from a trauma-informed, attachment-based and relational lens. I strive to practice from the stance of cultural humility, and am committed to continuous engagement with learning. I have specialized training in sensorimotor art therapy and other somatic/body based modalities that support trauma work.

My core approach stems from the belief that everyone has a unique creative capacity within themselves. In my work with folks, I strive to support them in discovering and developing that ember that is creative capacity. Together we work to build upon practical tools that exist inside the individual. I use a variety of modalities with expressive arts being the main pillar of my practise.

Are you trying to make sense of your relationship, your brain, or the unexpected emotional shifts of midlife? My work focuses on couples therapy, supporting neurodivergent adults, and helping women navigate perimenopause. Many of the people I work with feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward and are looking for both insight and practical change. - Many of the couples I work with feel stuck in the same arguments or painful patterns—having the same conversations over and over without feeling heard or understood. Together, we slow those moments down and look at what’s really happening underneath the conflict.

If you’re done overthinking and want real relief and lasting shifts inside, depth work might be your answer. Lasting change comes from knowing yourself deeply and addressing what’s beneath the surface.

After working as a family therapist I moved to sexual assault trauma therapy and now run a sexual assault center.
People seek therapy when they reach a point in which they can’t imagine the next step. They may feel hopeless or stuck, but deep down are yearning for change. If this is you, you are not alone. Change is possible, even if you can’t visualize it in your present situation.

Accepting new clients. If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, relationship difficulties, or family stress, you don’t have to navigate it alone. My name is Theresa, and I’m grateful you’re considering therapy with me. I’m also grateful to be included in your story. Many of the struggles people carry are not signs that something is “wrong” with them, but understandable responses to overwhelming life experiences, stress, loss, or emotional pain. Therapy can offer a space to slow down, feel supported, and begin making sense of what you’ve been carrying.

Hello, and welcome to my profile! For the past ten years, I have supported people through life's ups and downs. I feel deeply connected to the stories we carry, and I know how overwhelming life can be when mental health challenges leave us holding more than we anticipated. Past experiences often resurface in unexpected ways, but with the right support, cycles can be broken, and the patterns we feel stuck in can begin to shift. I work from a trauma-informed lens, rooted in the belief that at our core, we all want to be seen and heard. My role is to walk alongside you with support that nurtures self-compassion and mind-body awareness.

I strongly believe that therapy is at its best when it works to improve your relationship with yourself by helping you understand yourself, your life story, and your unwanted behavioral and emotional patterns. To do this, I provide a safe space to share and experience yourself and your feelings fully, and to use this insight to shed light on underlying emotions, needs, and unrepaired experiences that require healing. My goal for each of my clients is to promote effective coping strategies, to replace painful emotions with healing and empowering ones, and to develop new perspectives that improve quality of life in a meaningful way

I work with couples and individuals, quickly identifying patterns and finding alternatives to repeated adverse outcomes. Before becoming a therapist, I spent years as an actuary, a profession grounded in precision, analysis, and long-range thinking. This background uniquely shapes my approach to therapy: thoughtful, strategic, and deeply attuned to patterns beneath the surface. I bring the same depth and intellectual curiosity to understanding the human experience, helping clients uncover insights that are often missed in more conventional approaches.

When we avoid what we need to face, we suffer the symptoms that bring us to therapy. We are wired to bear the pain of real life, but our psychological suffering can be unboreable. Sigmund Freud called psychotherapy “a cure through love” and I truly believe in this. The wounds that accrued in a relationship must be healed in a relationship. A relationship where the therapist doesn’t talk “at us” but “with us.” I believe all individuals can develop into mature, fully realized adults. However, inner or outer obstacles can make this path difficult. My role has always been to support my clients to remove these obstacles.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
