If you are struggling with anxiety, stress, PTSD, insomnia, OCD, depression, or other emotional problems, or if you are looking to make changes in your life, our team of warm and supportive professionals will work together with you to help you reach your goals.
Guelph CBT provides only the highest quality evidence-based treatments. Given our name, you may have guessed that our treatment focus is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), though we offer other forms of therapy if they have been supported by the best research evidence. Why is this so important? We know that no therapy can be effective if it is not based on a solid foundation of warmth, empathy, and trust. This is why we go out of our way to make you feel welcome, supported, and understood. We will work collaboratively with you in a warm and compassionate manner to help you reach your goals. In addition, we also know that the specific ingredients, or the type of therapy provided, matters as much in determining how effective and efficient our treatment will be. “Evidence-based” simply means that these therapies have been designed, tested, and shown to work in randomized clinical trials, and continually improved through ongoing clinical research. Therefore, you can be confident that you are receiving the highest quality of treatments that are both cost effective and clinically effective. That way, you can spend less time in therapy and more time living!

I work with adults, couples, and families who feel overwhelmed, dismissed, stuck, or lost in life, relatinships and the healthcare system. Many are navigating chronic illness, medical trauma, misdiagnosis, recovery, complex care, or caregiving stress. Others are coping with anxiety, burnout, strained family dynamics, separation, recent breakups, divorce, or life changes (transitions) linked to new challenges, diagnoses, undiagnosis, menopause, postpartum shifts, or changes in mobility. If you're looking to identify and heal coping patterns—around relationships, boundaries, attachment, work stress, existential questions, or identity—you’re in the right place. I work from a systemic, trauma-informed, climate-aware, polyamory- and queer-friendly lens. I'm mindful of how culture and society shape our mental health, and how therapy is just one part of a broader healing process. Having walked through grief, trauma, and burnout of my own, I come with a lived understanding of some of life's hardest lessons, and I hope that whatever you come to therapy with, I can support meaningful shifts in your life.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
