As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), I have additional training in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, as well as a second Master's degree in Religion, Culture and Global Justice.
Facing everyday challenges is not always easy; however, when we come to better understand what is happening within us and in our lives, we are much better equipped to make changes. I believe therapy is a wonderful avenue to support this journey, and I consider it a deep privilege to support people through life’s highs and lows. I see my role as one of helping people to take on the challenge of navigating life with greater ease and grace. Together, we can find strength, hope, and healing, no matter what you might be facing.

The modalities I use include IFS, talk therapy, somatic experiencing, Enneagram, Gestalt exercises, psychodynamic psychoanalysis, guided meditation/ mindfulness, inner-child and energy work.
I work with adults who want more freedom from negative patterns and insight about the root of reactivity. They want to experience calm and peace. They want help with healthy boundaries, anxiety, self-worth, depression, life direction, co-dependency, communication, addiction, relationships (with self, the Divine, life partner, ex-partner, children, family, co-workers), emotional regulation, grief, loss/divorce, chronic pain, parenting, spiritual growth and psychedelic integration. Carrying the past makes current life difficult. Helping clients accept the past, learn from it and then let it go is what I love doing best.

I draw upon a number of approaches to address your goals, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness-based, and Solution-focused approaches to help you better understand how your thought patterns affect your experiences, and how to shift these in more balanced and supportive ways that help you feel stronger.
Perhaps you have been searching for something to help you feel on track again. Maybe you have been feeling anxious or down lately, or you’ve had one or more difficult life experiences that you’re having trouble letting go of, or don’t know how to move past. You might be considering some important changes, or change and upheaval have already found you in ways you didn’t expect. You’d like to move forward, feeling empowered and in control. But, it's hard to figure out how.

Along with a background in philosophy, I also have training in mindfulness meditation, trauma and grief counselling.
If you're struggling with anxiety, depression, grief or other losses, coping with a past that includes traumatic events or childhood experiences, and want to find ways to build your own mental and emotional resiliency, then it can be helpful to work with someone to find ways to heal, feel supported and heard. You may also be worried or anxious about the way things are in world related to post-pandemic life, climate change, conflict and economic uncertainty. Or, you may struggle to feel understood as someone who is gifted and/or highly sensitive, or may be experiencing challenges in your close relationships or with your partner.

I use a range of techniques to support our work together: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address unhelpful thought patterns, mindfulness practices to keep you grounded, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to manage intense emotions.
Do you feel like your emotions shift suddenly without warning? Do you find yourself at odds with your own thoughts and feelings, often engaging in self-sabotage, ending relationships impulsively, or struggling with a constant push and pull in your relationships with yourself and others? It can feel like an emotional rollercoaster—one you wish you could step off, only to find yourself back on the ride before you realize it. Together, we can get to the core of these experiences and uncover the underlying causes. Through our work, we’ll develop tools and skills to help you reshape your relationship with yourself and others.

Some of the modalities I use include Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, ASSIST, Trauma-Focused Modalities, Play therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness & Relaxation - but ultimately we will use the method that feels best for you, to best facilitate space for you to be open to explore how you are feeling and how those feelings are impacting your day to day life.
Accepting New Clients! In Person & Online Sessions - I am passionate about helping individuals aged 5-25 who struggle with anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem. Maybe you’re carrying the weight of trauma, struggling with anger, grief, or navigating tricky friendships and family issues, including the impact of the experiences as a foster child. For kids struggling with anger, grief, or tricky friendship & family issues, it can feel as though joy in childhood is lost. Similarly, as a young adult who lacked support as a child and recognize how this could have an impact on your future, now is the time to reach out for support.

The evidence based treatment approaches I draw from include: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-based Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
Sometimes life can be overwhelming and stressful, thus making it difficult to cope. Therefore, my hope is to help you work through some of your issues (i.e., anxiety, grief, loss) that you are struggling with by providing the skills, insight, and knowledge you need to lead a life you want. I know talking to someone about painful emotions and memories can be difficult so thank you for taking the first step to seeking help.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
