Telling our stories of grief, pain, love and triumph can release the grip they may have on us or build us up as we deserve.
I work from a person centred approach incorporating narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness. I also utilize aspects of cognitive behavioural therapy as our thought processes can strongly impact our story writing and how we interpret other's stories.

I support people through life’s challenges— loss, transition, trauma, and more—helping them reconnect with their strength, reclaim their autonomy, and rediscover a sense of purpose.
You might be in the middle of a big life change—or simply feeling lost, stuck, or overwhelmed by everything you're carrying. Maybe you're exploring who you are, trying to reconcile pain from the past or present, or trying to make sense of relationships that no longer feel right. Maybe you want to feel more like yourself again—more grounded, less reactive, and better equipped to handle life’s unpredictability. My clients are often thoughtful, resilient people who are ready for something to shift. If you're longing for clarity, self-compassion, and a space to just be real, you're in the right place.

When you come to me for grief related therapy I will work with you to externalize your grief in order to support meaning making, foster continuing bonds and to facilitate the moving forward process.
In strengthening our capacity for self-compassion we can begin to better understand the origins of challenging feelings such as guilt, shame, anger, regret and sadness. My approach focuses on the practice of self-compassion as the key pathway to psychological flexibility and meaningful change. Through the self-compassion lens, I will walk alongside to help you identify how behaviours, attitudes and beliefs may be negatively impacting your life. I believe that the therapeutic process can be creative and life giving. When self-compassion and acceptance are present we can truly begin the process of change.

I also provide compassionate grief counselling to individuals who have lost a loved one, experiencing separation or divorce, job loss, or the impact of cancer.
In my primary modality, Internal Family Systems, we bring curiosity and compassion to the parts that hold wounds as well as the parts that seek to protect you, even if at times you feel they wreak havoc on your life. Together we listen and learn, and support the parts to let go of the burdens they have been carrying, and create space for healing and freedom.

Are stress, depression, anxiety, anger, sadness, grief, loss or addiction getting in the way of your happiness?
Some of the ways I work with my clients include: talk therapy (CBT and interpersonal therapy), experiential therapy (body psychotherapy, mindfulness, meditation, visualization and creative art therapy) and energy work (reiki and chakra work). Often it is a combination of the above tools that provide the best long-term results.

It's not uncommon for anger, grief, and anxiety to follow, profoundly separating you from yourself, the life you'd been working towards, or the world you once knew.
I use trauma and attachment-focused modalities to meet you right where you are and sit in it the unknown of life with you. Together, we'll build on your existing strengths, explore different perspectives, and reach for understanding, hope and connection, whatever that may look like for you.

I am a firm believer that therapists are not experts, but people trained and devoted to safely sharing the burden of bearing sorrow, grief, and emotional wounds.
My goal is to create an environment where people can safely experience the full spectrum of their emotions without judgment or invalidation. I help people to resist societal forces that reinforce shame and stigma, and to set boundaries to help protect their well-being. Throughout, I balance compassionate validation with strategies for empowerment and change.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
