I am trained in
family
mediation related to separation/divorce, parenting plans, custody/access, and
family
reconciliation.
For 35+ years, I have been actively engaged in social work and therapeutic counselling. Over the past 12 years, I have conducted custody and access assessments for separating parents, and the
family
court system. My specialized training and experience is geared to helping parents and families navigate separation and divorce as cooperatively as possible. My approach is to empower and provide perspective, to support amicable co-parenting, and to help keep children out of the tensions. Clients tell me that they appreciate my conversational approach and familiarity with the
family
court system.

Specializing in trauma/PTSD, relationship/
family
issues, and anxiety, I am here to walk alongside you on this journey of growth.
Are you trying to move forward in life, but find yourself constantly weighed down by the past? Maybe it's your experience growing up, a toxic relationship, or something that happened to you. After hardship or trauma, the brain adapts in brilliant (though sometimes unhelpful) ways. You might find yourself feeling anxious and unable to let things go, numb and shut down, or feeling disconnected from the person you want to be and the life you want to be living. If that sounds like you, know that this doesn't have to go on forever.

I am a registered psychotherapist with a Master's in Marriage,
Family
and Child Counseling from California State University, Sacramento.
Not accepting new clients. Trauma, anxiety and depression can leave you feeling overwhelmed and isolated. Therapy can offer you a better way forward. My specialty is working with adults who are survivors of childhood abuse, trauma or neglect. I help my clients live more in the present that they want, rather than focus on fears from the past or worries about the future. As an experienced therapist, I've seen that when people can safely address the traumas in their life, they reduce their anxiety, depression, difficulty with relationships and trust, low self-esteem and overwhelming emotions, among other things.

and clinical supervision for therapists. I am a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario, and both a Registered Marriage and

I support children, teens, and adults with challenges related to anxiety, self-esteem,
family
issues, and depression.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, but not sure where to start? Maybe you feel like you need a safe space to share difficult things. I know the feeling of reaching out for the first time, and how important it was that I could feel heard. Now, I hope to foster a space where you can feel empowered to use the strengths you already have to create the life you want to live. I realize there’s many different paths to healing, and as an Accredited Music Therapist we can also incorporate music into your psychotherapy sessions, if you feel this may be beneficial.

My special areas of focus are: relationship and
family
issues; communication and conflict resolution; healing the past; dealing with grief and loss; self-esteem and assertiveness; dealing with stress and anxiety; coming out issues; career and life choices; and dealing with creative blocks to liberate creativity.
I believe that effective therapy takes place in an atmosphere of safety, respect, and caring. When a person comes to therapy, a healing process is already underway. As this process is recognized and strengthened, the client is free to move toward wholeness. I use empathic listening and questions to help clarify the presenting problem and set it in the context of the person's life journey with its healthy call for spiritual and psychological growth. Writing, guided visualization, role playing and art may also be used to bring forth inner wisdom and to explore alternative ways to meet challenges.

My additional training and research has been focused on grief and bereavement, forgiveness in couple and
family
settings, perinatal loss, and self compassion.
My approach is grounded in empathy, acceptance, authenticity, and often humour. I believe you are the expert in your life, and I work with you to facilitate change and cultivate meaning in your life. I offer a free consultation and work with individuals, couples, families, children, and youth. I believe therapy should be a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences while reconnecting with your values, goals, and relationships to align you with your true self. Change can be uncomfortable and frightening. I celebrate your strength to lean into that discomfort on your healing journey.

Family Therapy Counsellors
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
