Hi there! I am a registered social worker, having worked in clinical research in mental health and addictions for 2 decades. I started my journey in the field of Attachment, specializing in adolescent depression and the impact of early childhood on later interpersonal relationships and mental health. In the years following I worked primarily in large teaching hospitals, local mental health facilities, and community settings, engaging a broad range of partners, including persons living with serious mental illness, children and adolescents, survivors of trauma, the LGBTTQ2+ community and immigrant women, to name a few.

This fall, I am increasing my private practice hours to offer therapy to people who need more than what they can access through short term services. I have worked in mental health and employee assistance programs (EAP), and enjoy doing longer term therapy. Primarily, I work with adults who are struggling with mental health issues, including depression , anxiety, and trauma, couples with relationship concerns, and people who have life changes they are working through. In my practice, I take an anti-oppression, culturally informed stance to peoples' issues and experiences. I am committed to ongoing professional development.

I also have significant experience treating depression and trauma related issues.
Are you feeling stuck while also doing way too much? Maybe things feel a little (or a whole lot) harder and you're not sure what to do about it. I've been there, and found out first hand how therapy can help. Now, I hope to provide that support to the teens and adults I work with. I believe that everyone has the strengths and resources to find healing in their own life. We can work together to help you connect with those strengths and move forward. As a Certified Music Therapist, I am also trained and have the option to incorporate music in all forms into psychotherapy sessions. No musical experience required to benefit!

I have significant experience in as well as a particular passion for working with post-secondary students. From my experience working at various Colleges and Universities, I have a deep understanding of the unique challenges, stressors, and unseen mental toll being a student can take. Anxiety, depression , stress, burnout, and a lack of enthusiasm are signs that you may be off your path of your fullest joy, contentment, connection and fulfillment.
You may not yet know what you are looking for. All you know is that you want something to change. Or, you know exactly what you are looking for, what specifically you want to change, and this is why you are seeking someone like me. Either place is a great place to start. My job is to support you to envision the life you long for that you are not yet living, and to support you to take the steps to create it. You can do this. Along the journey, it is helpful to have a guide and a map. This is where I come in. I can provide both.

If you are struggling with anxiety, depression , addiction, stress, relationship issues or other concerns then finding the right therapist is a step towards finding solutions and increased skills to dealing with these problems. My approach to therapy focuses on helping you become comfortable and confident in your own abilities, while introducing new strategies from evidence-based approaches to help you create a healthier and happier life. Being able to understand your own story and explore the background of your struggles often gives new meaning and an ability to see new solutions to difficult problems. This is what I work towards.

Many challenges we face are inevitable, but often we can sway the outcomes in our favor, keep challenges from compounding each other, and avoid other problems altogether. That is the philosophy I carry into my work helping my clients – from teens to adults – with challenges like ADHD, OCD, learning disabilities, autism, depression , anxiety, postpartum depression , race-based trauma, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, and other concerns. My promise is to provide you a compassionate, open, culturally-affirming, and empowering counselling environment.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Guelph. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
